My friend and I flew in to Portland on Thursday evening, he from the Maryland/D.C. area and me from Nashville. Our other friend, who's local to Portland/South WA and provided all of the camping gear for the trip, picked us up at PDX. The three of us are old friends for over 2 decades, and it was good to meet up after a few years. We stayed at our friend's house Thursday night after a fun evening eating and reminiscing with his family. Friday morning started out with bad news: someone had stolen our friend's 12-man tent right out of the SUV he had packed the day before. Only stole the tent though, so he replaced it with a couple of smaller tents he had in his attic. We headed south on I-5 then east on I-84, with a brief stop at Multnomah Falls to stretch our legs and take some pictures. After turning north on US-97, the next stop was lunch at Arctic Circle in Yakima (I had worked at Arctic Circle while I was in high school in Utah...and hadn't been to one in years!). We briefly got turned around after lunch, but the GPS caught back up and we turned around to head north on I-82 then west on I-90. We were about 5 cars away from the entrance to Gold camping on Friday afternoon when DMB tweeted out about the "alternate format", so we ended up being the source of the news for most of our camping neighbors. After setting-up, we walked over to the venue around 4:30pm, and found a good spot on the lower 1/4 of the lawn (stage left). I got to meet up with my friend Robyn, a nice lady who "adopted" me into her lawn group as a solo Gorger the first time I came out in 2014. I dropped by the Reverb tent to see those folks and look at this year's water bottles...the problem was they ran out of the bottles (they had a small supply because they didn't receive the shipment they were expecting). Picked up some merch at the merch tent. The opener bands were fine (particularly Dumpstaphunk - I had seen them at The Gorge back in '14 as well), the main setlist was great, and the configuration progression (Dave Solo -> D&T -> DMB* -> DMB* + Tony -> DMB* + Dumpstaphunk) was really cool. Highlights were Virginia in the Rain, Bartender, Warehouse, Gravedigger (my Portland friend's fav. Dave song), and I must admit, Sledgehammer lol. After the encore break, Dave had said he spoke with Carter before the show and Carter told him to "make me proud". Y'all certainly did that tonight! After the encore, we headed back to the campsite and sat around, ate some food and chilled out before lights out.

What band can lose their entire rhythm section 3 hours before the show and still come out and put on a spectacular performance? This is unheard of yet Dave managed to pull it off. I say this literally, he was orchestrating the band while playing the 2nd 1/2 of the show. A very incredible show all things considered. I can't explain the emotions in the crowd last night. I've been to nearly 40 shows and there was nothing like it. The vibe went from party, to massive gut punch, to curiosity, to holy crap Dave and "Friends" are melting our faces off amazing. But the most unusual/moving moment of the night was when Dave sang Singing from the Windows. It was nearly silent everyone was just intently listening. It was really something special. I think everyone was just reflecting on the day and past 18 months. It was really something special.

You want unique?! This is as unique of a show as it gets. From the lows of hearing about an "Alternative format" in the lots early to an afternoon, this show far exceeded my expectations and definitely a contender for one of the best I've seen in a total of 67 shows.

N1 of Y14. No Carter or Stefan (COVID). Buddy was MVP. Show was a 4, but announcement of "alternate format" hours before show had us worried it was a 1. Jay, Cam, Sean, Pete.

Dave was nervous when he came out, but they really nailed it. Amazing to see the resilience and capability of the band. And a combination of both rare/unique songs and staples. A powerful run by Dave and Tim. Incredible to see the band play Warehouse with the salsa jam WITH NO RHYTHM SECTION. Buddy is ridiculously talented. And overall, this is a fun way to do a show - start slow, end slow. Way to go band!

Scramble to get it together. Dave and Tim solid. When the rest of the “band” came on it got a little rocky. They made it work and a historic set due to COVID.

I was so happy to be at the show I could’ve cared less what the band actually played. First time seeing live music and 18 months. That said, they did test it with both Carter and Stefan being out with Covid. I think the band an amazing job adjusting on the fly to playing without the rhythm section. The Setlist was awesome, the crowd was hyped and I was there with my crew. We had an awesome time.

Epic show with the alternate line up. Wasn't sure what that meant but by the end of the night it meant a one in a million show that won't ever be forgotten. The ability of DMB to make changes that elevate the show as amazing. BStrong with an MVP weekend.

was the limited format (Carter and Stephan out due to covid exposure), so made for an interesting night. Dave didn't disappoint. OPened with just him for 3 songs (Grey solo, boom!), then added Tim, then added Buddy. Was a unique night.
