Amazing energy with a set list that can't be appreciated on the screen. Easily the best show I've ever been to, I never thought I'd hear a full version of #40. The crowd was nuts and had incredible energy...awesome experience all the way around. DMB didn't disappoint at any moment and gave us a show we will never forget!!

Absolutely amazing...best show I have ever been to and probably one of the best shows they have ever played. This show need yo be the next live trax without a doubt. The crowd was amazing the entire night, constantly cheering and singing along with every song. It was awesome to be a part of such a great atmosphere. The band could feel the crowds energy and fed right off of it all night. Awesome set list with a lot of rare songs. Loved 40, 41, cry freedom, friend of the devil and the double encore with Halloween! Bella Fleck was on fire all night and it was great to see. First time up to Spac this weekend and I will most definitely be coming back every year again.

Absolutely ridiculous! Great set list; the band was as tight as I have ever seen them in my 65+ shows; Bela was on point throughout the entire show (especially with the Yankee Doodle Dandy in LIOG); I liked how the Ladies were brought out for a few songs at a time (unlike bringing them out for the final 4-5 songs of the electric set). How can you complain about Friend of the Devil, Burning Down the House, and Thank You; not to mention #41 and a double encore of Halloween. Probably the best show I have seen to date. Thanks for an epic weekend DMB and SPAC

An hour prior to the concert Jeff Coffin emerged from the wooded area of the Saratoga Performing Arts Center and stopped at the Performers' Entrance Gate behind the stage. "You must be Francesco," he said, smiling as he stood by the gate. He was accompanied by his wife and family, and he waved us into the area. At the beginning of July, the band arrived in Saratoga Springs, New York, where they would perform on two consecutive nights at the renowned Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC). The members of the Dave Matthews Band have kept the amphitheater close to their hearts, as they have played this venue thirty-three times over the past nineteen years. The performances this year were held on July 3rd and 4th. My dad and I made the pilgrimage for the July 4th show, on our way to an evening we would not forget. It was approximately 4:30 when we arrived at SPAC. All the way over to the venue, the rain had been pouring down, and it appeared that it would be a miserable, rainy night for the concert. I had contacted Mr. Coffin a month prior to the concert, and he graciously responded. Some arrangements were made, and it was established that I would meet him for an interview in Saratoga. As we got into the parking lot, it was confirmed that we would meet him at the performer’s entrance gates. Surprisingly, there were no issues with security on the way down to the sheltered location, directly behind the stage. We waited for a few minutes and conversed with a friendly security guard manning the gates. Suddenly, the clouds started to open up, and the sun began to shine through. Right on time, Mr. Coffin made his way to our location accompanied by some of his family. It did not rain for the rest of the night. Dave Matthews took the stage and the roar of the crowd echoed throughout the theater and surrounding forest. He greeted the crowd saying, “It’s good to be here again, and I’m glad that it seems to have cleared up…So we’ll try to have a good time this evening.” The first set started with Dave Matthews playing a few songs solo, including a couple rarities. Rashawn Ross, Tim Reynolds, and Jeff Coffin then took the stage for “One Sweet World,” and the crowd erupted in cheers and applause. The band paid its respect to the Grateful Dead’s 50th (and final) year of performing with a cover of their song, “Friend of the Devil.” Between songs throughout the band’s sets, the captivated and energetic crowd of over twenty-four thousand would capture the moment with unison chants of “U-S-A! U-S-A!” in celebration of Independence Day. Mr. Coffin fed off of the abundance of energy and took a solo rendition of the patriotic “Colonel Bogey March,” accompanied by Carter Beauford, backing him with the tight marching beat on his drums. Some very special guests were on-stage throughout the concert as well. The Lovely Ladies added incredible vocals on classic songs such as “You & Me,” and “Everyday.” “The Ladies are awesome!” complimented Coffin, “We love having them up on stage with us.” Another long-time, dear friend of the band, Mr. Béla Fleck, joined the Dave Matthews Band at SPAC for several songs throughout the night. Mr. Coffin commented, “It was great to share the stage again with Béla! He's a very close friend, and it brings back memories of the times we spent in all the years together with the Flecktones.” Jeff and Béla both placed magnificent solos in “Grace is Gone” for the acoustic set, and then played “Lie in Our Graves” together in the electric set. Their musicianship captivated the crowd as the chemistry between the two innovative artists proved to be as strong as ever. Though the cover of the Grateful Dead was a tribute on this July 4th evening, it is also just one instance representative of how the Dave Matthews Band has expanded beyond their records. There is a vast array of songs that the band can play on any given night. Besides playing their own songs that cover nearly twenty-five years of recordings, they have an extensive list of songs and musicians that they cover live in concert. “It’s scary,” laughs Mr. Coffin. “Having to know 140 to 150 tunes is daunting, and I have to have it all together every night, regardless of what Dave puts on the setlist.” In meeting with Mr. Coffin at SPAC, and in corresponding with him, it was evident that he is a true gentleman with a passion for sharing his talent in a way that enriches the lives of others. Twenty-four thousand people were lined up at the gates of SPAC to enter to their seats, and there my dad and I were, behind the stage with Jeff Coffin. A man who these people were all going to see perform. He was so personable, sincere and generous with us, despite being so close to show time. In the preliminary messages we exchanged, he was humorous and extremely open to sharing his time with us to talk with him personally. I hope to stay in touch with him, as we left him with an open invitation to visit us up here in Northern New York. Right as we were getting ready to leave so he could get ready for the show, he said, "It’s nice being able to connect with people, that’s why we do this. It was especially refreshing to see a student such as yourself reach out to me. Maybe if I get up to Crane we can share some homemade Italian pasta. I'm glad we got to meet and talk, man. Connecting with people is really what music is about.”

If you didn't enjoy this show, I don't think you can call yourself a Dave Matthews Band fan. This had everything-- a never-before-played song, a few surprises, some great fan sing-alongs, two encores, nearly three hours worth of pure music, great guests who elevated the songs on which they played, beautiful weather, classics (Cry Freedom, Tripping Billies), great new stuff (Beach Ball, Bela on Spaceman), a full #40, etc. Truly, the best show I've seen in 13 years.

This show made a case for the best I've seen out of the 15 I have gone too. Absolutely incredible setlist and the energy between the band and the crowd was so high that you would have to be a blind and deaf man to not lose your mind out there on the lawn. I thought they would play Watchtower with the National Anthem stefan base intro to end the second encore but I was pleasantly suprised to hear Halloween. This show ranks up there to me with Camden night 2 2013 and MSG winter tour opener in 2011 with Vusi guest appearing

Best acoustic set for sure...#40, OSW, Billies, Friend of the Devil...amazing. 2nd set was off the charts..the crowd was probably the loudest crowd I have been around, and DMB just kept feeding off the noise and took the energy higher and higher. Bela was outstanding and was such a great addition to the weekend. Definitely making the trek again next year from Vancouver, BC.

Great weekend at SPAC. The crowd and atmosphere truly are special. The show really kicked in halfway through the acoustic set. The Bela moments in both sets were even better than night one. Only thing that would have taken this show completely over the top would have been closing out with electric Two Step. Still a great show and great two-night stand.

If you gave this show less than 4 stars, then you're missing something. Great setlist, great guests, great energy, great flow. Dave used the same guitar for most of the show, did ya notice? So there was less down time between songs. This is the best show I've ever seen live--14 shows over 10 years. I listen to old DMB tracks, I look up old videos on youtube, and I read the almanac to see the history. Yea yea, I know there are plenty more hardcore fans than me. I got nothin on most of em. I'm just sayin, if you didn't love this show, you don't know much about this band, or their music, or music in general, or show business, or entertainment, or fun. You're probably going to concerts with the expectation that DAVE will play a whole bunch of rare, "unpredictable" songs JUST FOR YOU, when in reality what's happening is THE BAND is playing whatever they feel like that night and it's up to you as a fan to find your own experience within the night (yea I know, everybody's got their opinion, nothin says they had to love this show). Over both nights at SPAC this year, we were treated very well as fans. THE BAND (not just Dave) dabbled in some new stuff for us, but they went heavy on the old stuff. Isn't that what most of you want?? Oh wait, for some of you, Big Whiskey is "old" ... Who's this groo grux king they keep talking about? Yea I'm talking to you, the reviewer who said "Why I Am" is a horrible song.

The show was good. I still do not think it was nearly as good as the 2nd Alabama show. The Lovely Ladies automatically downgrade any show by at least 2 stars. If you take a look at the electric set, the only thing that was surprising was Cry Freedom. Everything else was predictable. Even them coming out to play Halloween in the 2nd encore was predictable. They just did that two years ago here at SPAC. Cannot believe they didn't play The Last Stop with Bela. That was a staple with Bela back in the day. Dave totally messed with everyone Night 1 with that long intro before playing Grey Street. Bottom line, the acoustic set gives you a water-down version of a song, and the electric sets usually have 4+ songs with the Lovely Ladies. Everyday, Burning Down The House, Spaceman, You & Me, Why I Am, Thank You... These are all horrible songs. Give me night 2 in Camden in 2013 any day of the week over this show.
