This show was probably the best ever in my 10 years of DMB concerts! Far exceeded the Raleigh show and I can't even begin to name a highlight - there were so many! Perfect way to spend the 4th of July.

This show was amazing, the selist was awesome because they mixed alot of the new and old songs together. As well as the guys pulling out special guest John D'Earth and playing a new song, Break Free. That song is great. And to top it all off it was 4th of July and the fireworks was thefinal touch for the best DMB show i've been to

I'll tell you what I don't want or need the "you can't have everything you want speech", but this show SUCKED NUTS! I went in with low expectations and left dissapointed. This is why:
No Last stop, Nancies, Warehouse, Billies, Two Step, Bartender, JTR, Raven, Dreamingtree, Rhyme & Reason, Seek Up, 41, and on and on.
Couldn't they have at least played the Intro to American Baby(lazy asses).
Basically, they couldn't or wouldn't take the heat.
Finally, thanks for the piss-poor stay encore again, not to mention the encore ended 5 mins. early so we could here National Amthem over the radio (like Stephan can't play it).
I admit I am little pissed right now, but tell me this show didn't suck!
If uou have a problem with this eat post a dic_!

Well happy hot and sticky VA Beach 4th of July I think I speak for everyone for the anticipation and excitement for the bands 1st Independence day show in many years...with that being said I think myself and many others were probably expecting big things for the night to come....however I did throw in the fact they were playing va beach and my worst fears came true for the evening... a few higlights, but personally I left dissapointed..
I could have left the show afetr break free and gone home happy,
although a PiG for an encore is nice. The highlight of the night was hearing american Baby make it 06 dubut on the 4th...this song is amazing, Say Goodbye through crash was great and Everyday as an opener was a good start

Had pretty good seats to the show (101) so that was cool. Heard shotgun being soundchecked in the parking lot and it sounded awesome, a lot better than the last time they played it. Nice to hear say goodbye again, if i had it all was alright. I definitely like can't stop into crush but that's just me. Break Free was great to hear again (heard it in toronto) and it seams to be progressing nicely. John D'Earth was nice as a guest. Not too sure about the Smooth Rider and Bayou closer. It was really hot tonight. Nice fireworks though.

The encore was a let down. crush was awesome so was say goodbye. stay to finish thats just not good. plus a recording of the star spangle thats crap. post gazette shows were awesome so this one was a let down a little. i want to go to at leaste one more show this summer.

Really good show with some classics and a couple of new jams. Only my second show but a few familiar favorites made it memorable. DMB is like wine they get better with age.

hmm...well i had great seats 12th row right in the middle...definitely enjoyed the show...was hoping for another grace is gone with the new ending but stay with the fireworks made my night...couldn't ask for a better way to celebrate the fourth of july than at a dave show and even better in virginia beach...

1st off, the party at the PA park was off the rocker!! I was really diggin the 1st half of the show but then you started to realize they were playing all radio hits. Loved Crush, Breakfree and pig but same encore as Nissan :( Thanks for the fireworks during stay, made it just a little bit better

I've been a fan since Crash and Before These Crowded Streets came out and it was incredible to finally be at one of their concerts. Theres a few songs i was hoping they'd play like #41, Lie In Our Graves, Trippin Billies, Two Step, Grey Street, and i could go on, but they have so many amazing songs that even though they didnt play those I was able to enjoy every second regardless. One thing I particularly enjoyed was the skatting solo Dave did. He was surprisingly really good at it and it was one of the hilights for me. One thing I don't understand is the people complaining about the same encore from the previous show. It doesn't make sense to me to go see DMB, or any band for that matter, 2 weeks after you just saw them and shell out $80 for it. I'm guessing that might be what the band was thinking too. Anyway, incredible concert, and I'd go again in a heartbeat.

I'm going to have to go ahead and second Brooksie2's review and say that I left the show last night disappointed. There were a number of songs that I was hoping I might hear, and left without hearing any of them. The show ended early with a predictable encore. After having been at SPAC for both nights in June I had really high hopes. That being said, I did enjoy American Baby, an intro would have made it better, Break Free is a great tune, and Cant Stop is starting to grow on me. The performance wasnt even in the same building as the Saratoga shows though. I couldnt really say if its the worst show I've ever been to, but it certainly doesnt rank near the best, or even somewhere in the middle.
Fireworks were a nice touch.
Note to people tryin to sit down in front of the lawn when the Band is playing. Dont get upset when people stand in front of you to WATCH the show. Its what you pay 50 bucks for. Just stand up with the other 20 thousand people and watch it along with them.

Hey Dave and band, if you ever read this, don't listen to some of these people that dissed the 7/4/06 show. They don't realize that you guys tour ALL THE TIME, so god forbid their be one show thats not PERFECT like they always are. You guys rock no matter what. Just keep enjoying what you do. That's all that matters! I'm behind you guys all the way! Looking forward to 4 shows in summer of 07!! Thanks!!

Mediocre at best. Dave's voice was off, the setlist was subpar, and they didn't play through the fireworks, instead opting for house music, which was disappointing. Still, I can't think of a better way to spend the 4th of July. Had a great time regardless.

Not thrilled with the setlist, particularly since I was at Bristow and I've seen far better setlists this tour for other shows. I tend not to complain about the setlist much though because even though they're playing radio hits I'd never listen to at home, I do enjoy them much more live. Overall, the show was good. Very high energy, some fun jams, and THEY PLAYED BREAK FREE (my favorite new song)!! Agreed that they should've played the Star Spangled Banner rather than a taped version. I commented after the show that All Along the Watchtower would've been perfect to close this night and not just because I despise Stay as a closer. Four more shows (Hartford & Ch'ville) for me this summer so I'm hoping to hear some gems soon.

After seeing five of the past seven shows, I would say that this one was not one of the better performances (Camden shows were killer). It did have its highlights including great Jimi Thing and Crush. Break Free sounded great too. The setlist was devoid
of any nuggets that we have come to expect from the band on this tour (The Song That Jane Likes, Last Stop, etc.). There were
no surprises (I expected American Baby on this night, so no surprise there) I had seats in the second row and I could certainly see that the band members were enjoying themselves. I was disappointed that neither of the very talented guitar players from Umphrey's joined them for the any jamming. Still the fireworks were awesome and seeing the band hanging out on stage after the show to watch the pyrotecnics was a treat. It was a very fun night.

always fun to see a dave show... but this was by far the worst show ive seen them put on, and the most disapointed ive been leaving... i guess we were wrong to hype the show.... being in Virginia and on the 4th of July i thought it would be badass... liek everyone else has said crush and jimi thing were nice... id be happy with the encore any other year but we heard the SAME one in bristow.. they have to know its gonna be the same fan base at both shows

the band put on a good show, setlist was deplorable. Jimithing, Break Free, Pig, Crush, and Say Goodbye were all great and the only decent songs that they played, too much radiodave, stand up, and everyday, the last five songs that ended the set prior to the encore were horrible, 2 radio songs and 2 songs from stand up, even with the good yet short ASTB breaking up that shit fest i could do nothing but stand there with my arms crossed being pissed off. I didn't even hear the #40 tease because of the usual drunken screaming of frat boys. Umphreys put on a good show as usual, i was hoping their guitarists would come out for a song or two but no dice, John D'Earth was a good guest and a surprise but he guested on horrible songs.

It was a pretty decent show. Great versions of Crush and Jimi Thing. Only dissapointment was Stay as the closer, over-used and closer at Nissan Pavillion a week before, they made up for it by having the fireworks go off during the end jam.

Very disappointing show. There was a serious lack of energy and this was easily the worst set list so far this year. Can't Stop is a terrible song at this stage, and it was disappointing to have the exact same encore as the much better Bristow show 10 days ago.
Not all was bad though, the fireworks at the end were nice and Crush and Jimi Thing were both great.

Great time. Good setlist. My second show at VA Beach, I really like the venue there. The tailgaiting does suck and getting out of the lot after the show is a mess, but the actual ampitheatre is set up well and alot nicer to see a show at than back in dirty Camden. The fireworks topped it all off.

a little dissappointed... same first 2 songs as at nissan and the exact same last two. and theyre pretty close. smooth rider hunger and bayou were not great imo. the set just didnt flow. great crush and jimi thing and break free was cool. i dont think they should have done the same encore as they did at a venue thats right next to it. after pig i was praying that they wouldnt play stay. my prayers fell on deaf ears....

The impression I got off this show is let's play all our commercial/radio stuff because we know there's no failure in that and it's the 4th of July. A good part of that show are all songs we already have on our live cds so I honestly feel like I wasted my money... They played what they thought the people wanted to hear, no classics.. If I could I'd stop listening to them but their other songs are just too good.. and oh, the encore was cool the first time I heard it.

Boyd had soooo much energy this show. I enjoyed watching him the most. Overall best songs were: Say Goodbye, Break Free, and Anyone Seen the Bridge?! I was disappointed that the encore was exactly the same as Nissan :( And, the show ended early at 11pm.

This was without a doubt, the best fourth of July I've ever experinced. I always used to say to my friends It would be nice to see The Dave Matthews Band on the 4th of July, and it was nice to finally experience it. Yeah it was hot, but the tailgating was excellent. WWYS, and Say Goodbye were great, and If I Had It All(saw this at Camden also, love the chorus thing they do at the end). Can't Stop and Break Free are developing into some bad-ass tunes, like 'em. Crush was great again, as it has been all tour. Jimithing was great, Butch and Dave are doing a cool little scat-thing on it right now. John D'earth came out and added to the horn section for SMTS>ASTB>Too Much, Very cool. I must say that I love the fact that DMB has a nice little horn section now with the addition of Rashawn, this is awesome. Highlite of the night was the encore with Stay and the fireworks and the Band hung out and watched them with us. It was cool how everyone was watching the fireworks in awe with some great background music. I will also say that American Baby was excellent for this night, good choice to bring that one back out. Thank you again, DMB. It's been a great tour so far, and now things are gonna really heat up as we head into the second half. I'll see everyone at Randall's Island in August.

Well, I have ups and downs about this show. Overall I'd give it a B+. I mean come on, COULD THEY HAVE NOT HAD A BETTER TIME TO DO WATCHTOWER AS THE ENCORE???? And the recording of the Star Spangled Banner? they should have done the intro to the star spangled and then they would have brought the damn house down if they went into watchtower....4 years now I've waited to hear him play it!!! and still nothing, and no 2 step? no lie in our graves? If us fans are dedicated enough to stick it out through that oppresive heat that night, so should their band, I mean hey, without fans, who would they be? anyhow, just my 2 cents

Best show in Virginia Beach, or any where I've seen in years. Finally back to the songs that made them a hit. Keeping it to only 1 or 2 new songs per show seems to be working because you don't get bored with them and they actually sounded good. Hope the guys continue on this line in the future. Keeping the old jams mixed in with the new. Fireworks ended a great show, it was great to see the band just hanging out and enjoying the display while playing it up with the crowd.

First DMB concert I'd ever been to. Everyone around was commenting it was the worst one they've ever seen, but it was still electrifying. The high point for me was "Too Much". You could just feel the energy from the band and the crowd all around you, it was amazing. May not have been DMB's best, but it was the best concert I'd ever seen.
