Walk Around the Moon (album) discussion

Dave Matthews Band’s 10th studio album, Walk Around the Moon, took shape during the pandemic and is as much a reflection on the current times as it is an urge to find common ground. Walk Around the Moon will be released to coincide with the start of the band’s 2023 summer tour.

TRACK LIST:
1. Walk Around the Moon
2. Madman’s Eyes
3. Looking for a Vein
4. The Ocean and the Butterfly
5. It Could Happen
6. Something to Tell My Baby
7. After Everything
8. All You Ever Wanted Was Tomorrow
9. The Only Thing
10. Break Free
11. Monsters
12. Singing From the Windows

Seems appropriate to post a new thread eh?

I’m kind of surprised we didn’t get a deluxe version with live versions from the Hollywood Bowl.

I like the album art. Dave solo songs being on it is what it is. It's expected, like how Bismarck was left off.

Very stoked for this album. No expectations for the unheard songs, but I’m VERY excited to hear OATB, ToT, and SFTW.

The chorus is the best part of the song for me. The verses are so clunky and cliche. Trying to be deep and edgy and it just seems so cheesy to me. Zero melody and just overcrowded.

I'm gonna order none of them. Couldn't care less about vinyl.

Are these songs really this short? What are they, punk songs? Green Day had a bunch of short songs in the 90s that were great, but that's not really DMB's thing...

I'm wrong, it's 2 vinyls. I wanted to edit this post but for some reason I can't? What's wrong with this board.

This isn't a good sign, though. Looks like break free got the b&by studio treatment.

Just realized that with Break Free in the album, the phrase “don’t you cry” appears in at least two songs.

Track times are posted on the high resolution streaming service Qobuz. It has been discussed AT LENGTH in the "New Album Coming in 4 months" thread, but I don't blame anyone thay doesn't was to read through all that shit. It madness over there.

The Qobuz track lengths are thought to be correct though. Seems unfortunate, but we shall have to wait and see what the songs sound like.

Re: Walk Around the Moon (album) discussion

I made my own little disc to listen to over the next few months lol

I took official streams/videos - edited out the extended outros/intros of crowd - made some fade in/fade outs so it sounds a bit more professional and tried to pick versions that featured the full band or were close to what I expect the final versions (minus the jams .. sad face) to be.

    1. Madman's Eyes (Radio Edit) ....3:58
    2. Walk Around The Moon 09.17.21 .... 6:01
    3. Madman's Eyes 11.04.22 .... 6:31
    4. The Ocean And The Butterfly 08.06.21 .... 3:33
    5. Something To Tell My Baby (Solo CNN performance w/ Violin) 04.17.22 .... 2:42
    6. The Only Thing 08.27.21 ...... 5:20
    7. Break Free 06.24.22 ........ 7:04
    8. Singing From The Windows 11.12.21 (Solo but Live version as it was a tribute to Jeff who had covid) 4:00
    9. Madman's Eyes (Album) 4:49

    44 minute album

Re: Walk Around the Moon (album) discussion

Still not sure why there are so many vinyl colors and no bonus disc? Even if it was like AFTW and the bonus disc was all live versions of the album tunes that would have been cool. Or even alternate takes of break free since we know it was recorded multiple times.

I will say Madmen’s Eyes sounded pretty good but my hopes aren’t too high for much of the rest. I have a feeling we’ve already heard the best songs on this. I’d be interested to know why they included break free and not break for it? Seems like they worked on both and had the space.

I wonder if Revolution had a name change. That one seemed heavily rumored for inclusion.
