Can’t speak for Jimi Thing but satellite is supported by a unique riff, unique vocal melody. At the time of its release, our world was becoming more intertwined w technology, and people were questioning our new way of life w satellites above monitoring our lives at every moment. The lyrics are simple, but they capture some level of irony. “Satellite string from the moon,…, peeping Tom for the mother station”. He contrasts a beautiful line with something rather foreboding about this new way of life. His lyrics are not magical, but they are simple, good - if not great - and fit the song

I agree, I was being deliberately over-the-top to respond the claim that all of Dave's lyrics in the past decade are embarrassing. My point was just that not ever verse can be a winner, and that Dave wrote a few bad lines even at the height of his powers. That first simile in Satellite is as hackneyed as you can get. The rest of the lyrics are fine, though.

I am really looking forward to hearing this song on the new album. The track times seems appropriate (sadly this has to be taken into consideration now) and it lends itself to getting a good studio treatment. Really looking forward to it.

Big question for me is the pace. The '21 tempo feels like it's in slow motion, so hopefully they tinkered with it and sped it up a bit for the album. I really enjoyed the '22 performances.

Will be interesting to hear the pace as well as the final lyrics. Hoping he brought back some of the lines from the 2021 version so that the Chorus has some variation.
