Someone here feeling really outgoing and generous this Holiday season? If so, I'd really, really like one of these.

So if I were to say that there's a prequel to the Christmas episode, given what we know about it so far, you might expect something a bit understated, calm, whathaveyou.

Not so much the Doctor blowing into, his words, smithereens.

Looks like we're going to be back to a single companion much sooner than later. From the official Who Facebook:

so I'm not sure which Whovians here knew about this, that BBC America put this call out to fans to answer a couple particular questions, doing so on video of course and to send it in, they were going to make a compilation episode that would come out near the holiday, and watch and see if you were in it.

No, I didn't make a submission, but my friend did... she made it in!

    http://youtu.be/u4Rll328gis

She's right at about the 1:55 mark, she's the blonde wearing a red tshirt and is wearing a Silence "eye drive" (put in as special FX by the guy who filmed it). Trouble is (& I knew this would likely be a problem) the part of her video that made it in, is only the punchline of a really good joke they created about continuing to forget that she had a first date with one of the Silence, but surely the set up for it was WAY too long to be included here (as you see most people are just in it for a couple seconds).

Just got done watching the Christmas special. um... wow. Boy, did that... well, "suck" is a rather harsh word. But that was probably the worst Christmas episode in the entire reboot run so far. I never was particularly impressed from the very first trailer we saw weeks and weeks ago, that it wouldn't live up to the quality of last year's Christmas Carol riff. But damn that was just disappointing all over.

interesting. Every other Whovian I've talked to so far, it's ranged from "meh" to flat out hating it.

Yeah, that chart was on TDW Geeks a few weeks ago. Good stuff.

Also, the Christmas special: got an A- from the AV club, and as you can see in the comments, pretty common for folks to think its either the best or second best ever. For me, it's second best after last year, and Donna's Runaway Bride third.

I'm sorry, I'm just so completely stunned at there being people who not only liked this episode, but absolutely LOVED it

but there does seem to be not a whole lot of middle ground at all. It's either love or hate.

I can see why people wouldn't like it; it's an episode that could have, for all intents and purposes, existed without the doctor's direct involvement within the Christmas world. It's less of a Doctor Christmas, more of a Moffat Christmas. But it's not as if there haven't been great episodes with limited Doctor/companion involvement in the past. I think the only reason I don't fully love love it is the dad angle. I'm never a fan of deus ex machina, and the dad randomly getting caught by the ship is way over the top in that regard. Plus, I'm still not completely sold on the actual timeline at hand. I mean, sure, timey-wimey wibbly-wobbly and all of that, but still. But other than the dad aspect, big fan.

Well yea I mean, hello, look at "Blink". but part of what bothers me is, I'm not even sure I can fully articulate why I didn't like it, for some reason it's just really hard to describe. There just seemed to be so little point to the whole thing. And everything with those three "security guards" (for want of a better term) just seemed silly and unnecessary.

Just overall such stark contrast after last year's excellent episode, and hell that was even rehashing a story that's been done to death a billion times.

I've been blazing through Torchwood this past week. I like it a lot more than I was expecting. I have a few problems with it (everyone falls in love and loses all common sense in about 2 seconds), but overall, I really like it.

In actual Doctor Who news, Moffat says the season is going to start late summer, "might be longer than people expect", and further confirmed the Ponds are leaving. Matt Smith made it clear that he's onboard for the foreseeable future, which Moffat confirmed on twitter.

I was actually just reading I think it was yesterday that shooting on series 7 is starting up this month.

I remember that back after A Good Man Goes To War was aired, and I think back then it was still just mostly rumor and speculation that Amy & Rory's days were numbered, that a lot of fans were guessing the next companion would in fact be the younger version of River Song. That when the doctor would indeed catch up to and find her, then they'd go on some adventures of their own.

But yea I don't know, the way Moffat words that, it sure sounds like it would be somebody we've never seen before (since I saw at least one fan comment suggested it be his daughter).

Yea I had an odd first reaction to this, but I think it's only because once I heard Sophie Myles' name a few days ago, I really wanted her. But this girl is extremely adorable, I'm sure I'll warm up to her (well and just the fact that I love Amy).

I just really hope those 8 episodes coming in 2013, I sure hope they're EARLY in the year, because I knew we had to wait extra long to get series 7, and so to hear we only get 6 shows this year, including christmas... oye. But, I'm super pumped that Amy and Rory's last story will be with the angels, they're easily my favorite villain.

Oh you won't fucking believe this. So they were just up shooting in NY yesterday, which, makes it very likely I think that they're in the middle of shooting Amy & Rory's farewell episode, as we know the Weeping Angels are involved and it takes place in NY. Now my good friend Amanda, she's the one who first got me into liking this show I guess almost 2 years ago now, she's got a friend of her own that lives up NY, I'm not sure what he does for a living, but he's a big Whovian as well, and there's two interesting people he just happen to run into 2 nights ago. (hopefully this works)

When he sent her that photo, naturally she freaked out, then as did I when she forwarded it along to me and a couple others right after. She gets a text from the same friend later in the evening about how he's playing a 2-on-2 game of pool in a NYC bar with Karen Gillan, Arthur Darvill and someone else. Gillan is getting increasingly plastered throughout the night Don't forget it was while in NYC when she had that "episode" early last year when she was literally running around the hallway of her hotel stark naked banging on doors trying to find her room.

below these are just 2 shots he got the next day while amongst the crowd watching them film in the park.
