Re: Doctor Who (Russell T Davies/Steven Moffat)

Awesome start to the season, but this waiting a week in between episodes is going to be awful. I watched the first season on blu-ray, so it was always "next disc!"

oh man did I just make a kick ass discovery. You know the "Doctor Who Confidential" segment the BBC narrator will say at the end of the episode to stick around for? Have any of you ever seen any of them? I assumed it would be a behind the scenes sort of idea, but be just about a handful of minutes long. Dude they're as long as the episodes themselves, like 44 minutes!
Because when I went to EZTV this morning as I always do to get the torrent link for the latest episode, I noticed (where I never had before) right below the link for the new third episode from last night I saw a link for DW Confidential 06x03 and so DL'd it, I was shocked when I started playing it and saw how long it was. So I went around and found the ones for each of the hours from the 2 part premiere as well. I can't wait to have a little Who marathon within the next day or so with the "Curse of the Black Spot" episode and then 3 straight Confidentials

Yea and speaking of which, according to the DW Confidential episode that went along with this one, the one exec producer Beth Willis (who's actually pretty damn hot, too) said it's only been since series 6 episode 1 that we've seen a "flesh" Amy, it's not been the entire time, since the start of series 5.

But I absolutely KNEW that at some point well before the finale of this year, the Doctor was going to wind up finding out (whether by accident or not) that Amy, Rory and River witnessed his death 200 years in the future, and they wouldn't know that he then knew.

I can't wait to see this 'ultimate cliffhanger' that has been promised in A Good Man Goes to War. It's going to be awful having to wait three months for the season to pick back up after that.

Yea I both love and hate that they're doing that

One thing I've noticed from watching the Confidential series now, too. Not only are individual scenes in a particular episode shot out of order, okay no big deal there, 95% of all shows and films are done that way, but from the dates I've noticed on shots where you see the slate in the picture, it appears that they're also often shooting different parts of the same episode months apart, and with scenes with completely different episodes in between. I mean I guess they can get away with it, as there seems to be a shit load of lead time between the start of production on the season and its actual broadcast, more so than most American TV.

They've always done that with the new Doctor Who. I've watched a bunch of the Confidential from the previous seasons and it has shown the shooting is all out of whack like that.

Yea I mean at first I was surprised to see it, but the more I've thought about it, especially with the long lead time as I said, it makes more sense. However I think when they've got more sort of extreme locations they've never been to before, like the castle in this most recent two-parter for example, the schedule seemed to be more normally condensed (just broken up by the Christmas break, it seems).

I believe Craig Ferguson is the only American late night TV that Karen Gillan's ever done (not a surprise I guess, both are Scottish) and she was on again last night

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3DlGjN-yuc

strange thing is the clip they played is from the episode that's like 3rd or 4th in line when they return in the fall.

btw I don't think I ever posted about this last month when I first found it (when the news first broke) that Gillan got totally blasted at a party in NY and was found later in the hallway of her hotel virtually passed out, completely naked.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz...ork-party.html

Why couldn't that have been me who found her?? It actually happened like all the way back in April though.

So I have no clue if this is at all true, but it would be super fucking awesome if it were, because it's really so brilliant. A rumor I'm starting to hear around the net is the "secret" to the eye patch, as in remember the old hag that Amy had been seeing scattering images of all season and revealed in Demons Run she abducted the baby, she always wore won, and in the 2 trailers so far from the Fall episodes show that lady's back (no surprise there), but also it's got a shot with River also wearing one. And the deal is, it's a defense against The Silence. That the wearer has a picture of one of the Silence creatures on the inside of their patch, so they're literally ALWAYS seeing one of them, and so they NEVER forget that the Silence exists. I mean yea they had the idea of the scratches on your arm, but for one it wasn't super practical and didn't totally accomplish the same point as this anyway.

I just loved this idea as soon as I heard it.

The rest of series 6 resumes tonight after the summer off. I just got done watching the BBC rip of it from torrent a little while ago. Holy shit, this episode was awesome. An interview with Steven Moffat I read a few days ago talked about how they weren't looking at all to follow in the footsteps of something like Lost here, that they were interested in delivering big answers here now one after another. And there's A LOT of big info in this episode.

This has been getting a little chatter in the general TV thread the last couple days so I figured since I'd made this thread way back when for the show anyway, might as well properly get it going here

Okay on the pervy side of things Amy in that pants suit... daaaaaaamn. Speaking of which, I've always known she was on the tall suit for women, but she's actually 5-11, no idea she was that big. The guess on the true nature of the eye patches worn by people like Kavorkian and the like... were we right? Well, yes and no. Not as black and white as initially surmised, but the external hard drive thing, it's ultimately still a device to help make sure you don't forget about the Silence. The infamous "Question" that would be asked, now we know it's simply "Doctor Who?" I've seen some fans gripe that it's really that trite and obvious, they're disappointed, I've seen other fans applaud it saying it's genius.

Btw, the news came down a little over a week ago I think that Doctor Who Confidential, the accompanying "making of" show with the series, that series 6 was its last, it was officially canceled. I know there's a whole big online attempt to save it, I doubt it will work. Anyway the one that corresponded with the Wedding Of River Song finale here, I highly recommend you seek out this episode if nothing else because they've put together this 10+ minute sequence that's telling pretty much the whole River Song story, but putting it in true chronological order! It's an awesome, very instructive view.

So I referenced this in my previous post above, well another friend of mine wanted this so I went ahead and edited this sequence out of (what is now the last ever episode of) DW Confidential and uploaded it, so I figured why not, I post it up here.

    http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xli...l-order_webcam

It's the almost 14 minute special sequence they edited together to explain River Song's whole story but now in chronological order. It's an excellent watch, and new narration done by Alex Kingston herself.

This is on Netflix (or was over the weekend). I watched the pilot and it was decent, but I am going through Bones first and also trying to beat Uncharted so no real time to watch this, but I may do so after Bones.

I really need to start buying the series, I'm going to have to get over my dislike of the over $40 per season price tag though (I'm such a cheap bitch ). I desperately want to rewatch this entire season from beginning to end. I have the 2nd half on DVR, but lost the 1st half because my other DVR died.

If I like a show enough, I'll keep it on my DVR in case I get the urge to re-watch. Generally though, I delete as I go. I also stopped purchasing DVDs/BDs of television series since most of them will undoubtedly receive some sort of comprehensive box set at the end of their run. That's really not the case with Doctor Who though.

well one thing I learned very clearly in the part time job I had at Suncoast a few years ago. For some reason, genre shows in particular are way more expensive on DVD than other "standard dramas". And even when a episode count is generally the same (anywhere from 20 to 24 for American shows). Like I'd constantly see full season of, say, any one of their newer Star Trek series, and it would be like at least $75, whereas a typical drama of like ER was the more regular $40 or so.
