Me too. Thankfully we have the April Sessions and can graft that intro onto the released version.

Anyone's opinion change (overall - for better or worse) when listening to the official release?

Just to finish off this thread...

    Grux

    No difference detected.

    Shake Me Like a Monkey

Both are virtually identical (it sounded like a mono track when I synchronized them), except for a bit of percussion (shaker) on the April Sessions version at the break on 0:19.

PS: I have saved the Audacity session with both "Funny the Way It Is" versions cancelling each other out, so if anyone wants to take a shot at the lyrics for those backing vocals at the end, send me a message.

so if funny the way it is was released mid april, and since then they've done all this work on the album... is the single the same as the april demo? the pandora stream? did they finish changing/mastering FTWII before they finalized the other songs?

That's why this "april session" name might be just plain wrong. If you see the amount of differences between one "Funny the Way It Is" and the other... Maybe it should be called "November Sessions" or something. I don't recall exactly when Dave and Stefan were posting on Twitter that they were in studio tracking stuff.

PS: All this "work" of comparing these versions only goes to show one thing: this is a fantastic album. It's a pleasure listening to it no matter how. I'm sitting at home listening to a nice sounding finished version (I got a 256kbps version now) and all I can think is this: fantastic work by this incredible band we all love so much.

Excuse me, "You and Me" just started and I gotta go there sit in front of the speakers to enjoy this song at its best.

Yes, at least for the full intro on "Why I Am". And also the stripped down version of "You and Me".

Yes, especially if you're a big fan (which, if you're on this board, you are...) and if you have any interest in recording or seeing how things develop over time and the process.

If you're a big fan and like to see the earlier stages of a song and then the final mix...yeah, it's fun to see the improvements!

I just mixed the April version of the intro of Why I Am with the album version, and this is officially my new version of the album on my iPod ;-)

I kind of stayed away from Ants leading up to June 2, so I'm completely out of the loop with these April Sessions. Where might I be able to get my (cyber)hands on this?

The horns are mixed differently on the april. For the most part the same parts are played, but the mix is slightly different. They're a bit brighter.

Did Boyd do anything during these sessions besides play on FTWII, Why I Am (only if you listen closely with headphones), or Time Bomb? I keep seeing you tube videos of new songs and he's just standing there the whole time on stage. It's frustrating to see, and it must be boring as shit to just be standing there. This is my only real complaint about this album.

    It's definitely a disappointment.

Its not exactly fair to compare the two, as the final version of the album is the FINAL version. This isn't the lillywhite sessions, lol.

It didn't take THAT long. Synchronizing digitally recorded material is a breeze (no speed issues), plus I was listening to these fantastic new songs while doing it, which is always a pleasure.

I don't understand why no one will talk about where these April Sessions came from/where we can get them. How about shedding a little light on this darkening scene!!
