Its a sad state of affairs sometime with those test screenings. They try to recreate "Joe Schmo Midwest" most of the time with them. Even at times seeing what under 17 year olds think of what will later be rated R films
I used to go to them sometimes (i'd have to lie, if you were in the entertainment industry in any form and got caught, you'd get blacklisted*). I went one time to see the movie
Dead Silence. Which at the time it had no title. They hand out a form at the end of the movie asking all sorts of really stupid questions about the actors, plot and stuff. A lot of stuff that has NOTHING to do with the integrity of the film. One on that i think asked if i found the lead actor to be handsome or the "take home to meet your family type". SERIOUSLY. But a funny thing on that one was they were asking for ideas for a title. The film was a horror film about ventriloquist dummies and stuff. and my friend put down, and still to this day cracks me up "Ventrilo Quest".
*I almost got blacklisted at this one. The only advertised it as "New film from the director of Saw" (for the sake of the story, his name is
James Wan), and this lady came and asked us questions in line and asked what our interest was. You're supposed to act dumb, but i wanted to sound somewhat smart, thinking i was naming the director and said "I want to see what
Leigh Whannell can do outside of the Saw series." Well, whoops, i just named the writer and star of Saw (played "Adam")...who wrote this movie too, but they didn't list him. So, the lady was onto me. She later found me in the theater before the film and started grilling me if i worked in the entertainment industry and how i knew anything about Leigh's involvment with this film. I played dumb as possible. Then she invited me to a focus group following the film (not surprisingly i did not attend it). Then after about 10 minutes. She came back, with Leigh Whannell himself and introduced me to him (it wasn't til then that I actually realized the mistake i had made). So, i got to talk to him for a couple minutes. Had to act like I was a "big fan". But this bitch was still giving me the stink eye the entire time.
Sorry, just felt like sharing that story.
