Golfing is just too expensive and takes too long, especially for people with families. Trying to get my brother out of the house for 5-6 hours takes weeks of planning.

I don't mind hitting the driving range with friends, but I would never be able to play 9 holes or anything unless its mini golf

I got over it after my 3rd visit. I'm just done with trying to get interested in golf altogether. It's a cool place for sure, good atmosphere with good food and drinks.

Golfing is just a good excuse for being outside for a few hours to have a few beers and relax with a few friends. Always a good time. I am terrible.

the favorite rounds of my life have been with my best buddy at 6:00 am (first off, nobody in front of us). done before 8. one practice swing, hit the ball, go directly to the ball, hit it again. repeat (often, in my case).

I can see golf being great if you're even moderately good at it. Great way to have a day with friends and/or shoot the shit with clients/potential customers/etc.

I'm just horrible at it so never go.

A round of golf takes between 4 and 4.5 hours. Add travel time to and from the course, warm up, getting cart, returning cart, etc...It's about 5-6 hours door to door to play 18 holes.

I have 2 kids. The trick is to get your kids into it. My son started playing when he was 5. He is now 13, a 7 handicap, plays with me every weekend and all summer and is going to get some "financial aid" to a local private school to play on their team...if he can get a better score on the entrance exam.

Yeah, that's cool and makes sense. In my particular example, none of the kids are anywhere near golf ready. In addition, it's just not that big of a deal in my family. Golf is fun. It's just tough from a time standpoint compared to other sports and more expensive than other sports to play on a casual level.

This guy worked and paid taxes. His wife and two kids are all American citizens. So now we destabilize their income so they can wind up on welfare? Maybe the troubled teens turn to crime and we can waste tax dollars locking them up? We need immigration laws, but let’s have common sense.

Exactly. It is ridiculous to think that after 20 years (b/c he was under 20 years old the first 10, so I won't count the full 30) that he didn't do anything to become a citizen.

I get it - I couldn't imagine being in that situation, but my sympathy for a story like that does not go as far as others. He had plenty of time to at least make an attempt to be here legally and for whatever reason did nothing.
