I agree with this somewhat but I have to wonder if it's his age more than ability. Following Rush and Neil Peart for 35 years and DMB and Carter for 25 years drumming has to take it's toll on the body. While Neil has chosen to walk away I think Carter may stay and prolly tone down his approach. They're both beasts when it come to playing but I want Carter to play as long as he wants.

This is definitely a part of it, IMO. Notice how, in the past year, Carter isn't all smiles the whole show as usual. It's not because he isn't enjoying himself, I just think he needs to work a little harder and focus a little more to get the job done. He is still doing a fabulous job, though. Playing the way he does and being on the road for 25 years just takes it's toll.

oh I think its certainly mostly due to that. Same reason Two Step barely gets played anymore.

    Just sucks to see.

This thread has somehow turned from the Boyd discussion to Carter, so I will put a cap on my points before returning you all to puns and jokes about socks...

Instead of posting a paragraph detailing Carter's playing I probably could have posted this and walked...

Replace original members with better players? I understand Boyd isn’t the best violinist, but he is Dmb too. Shouldn’t be thst hard to understand.

I get if some are totally against him from these allegations (although I think it is obvious there was a closeted relationship going on there) but as far as keeping Boyd out because of his performance in the past few years...no thanks
I dont think that is a fair comparison. Fonz plays his instrument at a very high level and hasn't had the degradation in playing ability that Boyd had. It also sounds from the Dave interviews like there was tension within the band around Boyd not committing to bringing the effort they felt was needed to the music. So.. I'm fine with them sending Boyd on his way and I would be very unhappy if they did the same to Fonz tomorrow.

Fonz has only gotten better over the years. He can do more and his lines are an integral part of the rhythm and harmony of the songs. Boyd has not improved since the band started and (while never the model of consistency) had only gotten less consistent over the years. He still had his moments, even on the 2016 tour, but they were fewer and farther...

Jazz drummers have played well into their 80s, maybe a couple even beyond. Guys like Ellvin Jones (76) and Paul Motion (80) literally played as close to a month before they passed. They weren't playing like they did in the 30s or even 60s, but they stilled killed it on the kit.

Age, cymbal hits, and one was the second song of a show while the other is the closer right? He hasn't done that roll at the end of the '02 version in a long time.

Infinitely more than I’ve missed Boyd. That said, I love Jeff, he’s just a differently unique player.

Now that Piedmont is slowly going up on YouTube I’ve been watching these performances. This was an album I’ve never wanted to go back to. And now I know why. Who the fuck decided to mix Boyd so loud? Painful

Wasn't this a show Boyd had to go back and re-record? Look at Ants, 0:30 second mark, Boyd is adjusting his amp thing, still getting violin sounds:

I hate 2007 as a year. Band sounded flat.

So, did any DMB fans show up to Boyd's Mom's funeral or no? I don't remember seeing any posts from DMBFamily about it. Lord knows those would be the people to go.

Lol I asked on the family page and a bunch of people jumped down my throat. Seriously there are a lot of losers over there that would suck a terd out of Dave’s ass if they had the chance. Anyways, I didn’t think there was anything wrong with being curious - and honestly feel a little strange that so many over there aren’t...

Anyone read the article in GQ about muscians getting sober? Trey Anastasio was a part of it and this was a question that was asked to him:

When you see colleagues or peers who still get loaded, what do you think?

Anastasio: I know one guy right now who’s in trouble, who’s going to come crashing down soon, and everyone’s talking about it. I think sobriety had given me the lens to able to see that person—I can see the actual person in there. I don’t do anything—there’s nothing you can do. But I feel for them. I don’t demonize people, I sympathize. [laughs] But I also don’t want to work with them.

I automatically thought he was speaking of Boyd. Of course it could be anyone and especially in the Jam Band scene. However, he is close with Dave and are under the same management.

I don’t demonize people, I sympathize. [laughs] But I also don’t want to work with them.

I automatically thought he was speaking of Boyd. Of course it could be anyone and especially in the Jam Band scene. However, he is close with Dave and are under the same management.
While that was a very strange comment by Trey, I wouldn't make the connection that he was referring to anyone in DMB based off of them having the same management. Still, I found him saying that very odd and don't think it's something GQ should've necessarily published.

It really could be anybody in the scene. Boyd's kind of already crashed as it stands.
