Official David Bowie Thread

About 3 years ago angels appeared before me, cleared the fog from my eyes and showed me that Bowie is, in fact, God, and the reason for all life on earth. and mars.

Here is the thread to talk about all things Bowie; from Ziggy to his narration of Peter and the Wolf; from Labyrinth to his cameo in Zoolander.

I guess I'll start off with the easy stuff.

Favorite songs? album? Fashion?

GO!

I just got done listening to all the Bowie I had over a two-day span. Excellent stuff. I really like Earthling, which I seem to be in the minority about.

Also, as for favorite song, "Bring Me the Disco King" from the Underworld soundtrack with Maynard Keenan guesting is truly vocal perfection.

He made a hell of a judge in the walkoff between Zoolander and Hansel.

i though Earthling was a great album... Little Wonder was probably my favorite track off of it, but I'm Afraid of Americans (w/ Reznor) was pretty badass too.
funny, i was exposing Megan to Bowie about a week ago, have a lot of his early years hits on my ipod. she knew like 4 of the 25 songs i played for her

I got to the Bowie well every now and then. "Life on Mars?" is one of my go to's when I'm doing some late night driving. He was great on "Extras" too.

I just found David Live on vinyl in VG+ condition for 5 bucks last weekend. Can't wait to get home and drop the needle on that.

I'm a big Bowie fan, though I thought he sucked live. Zero energy and seeming total contempt for the audience. Oh well, Ziggy Stardust is still one of my favorite albums of all time.

"Wam, Bam thank you ma'am." Best lyric ever!!! I love David Bowie. And since he helped inspire Trent Reznor, that makes him that much better.

Hunky Dory is where its at. Easily cracks my top 10 favorite albums of all time. Ziggy Stardust pulls a close second, but really cannot top tunes like "Quicksand," "Queen Bitch," and "Kooks."

Starting to very slowly come around to David Bowie - my Pandora shuffle at work has been cycling through the major singles: Fame, Let's Dance, Heroes, Changes, & Modern Love.

If I was going to listen to a full Bowie album for the first time, what album should I go to first?

Depends on the type of music you like. He's had a very versatile career.

I'd say Hunky Dory and then Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust are his most accessible.

I enjoy all of the singles mentioned above. Modern Love, Heroes, & Let's Dance specifically.

His pop sound is just impeccable.

The full Let's Dance album might be a good one to try. Im not super familiar with it, but it definitely has his pop sound!
