Re: Marvel Cinematic Universe Fandom (MCUc)
I was definitely not being serious. Although I don't disagree with your overall sentiment and I wouldn't mind Marvel taking more chances and ramping up the stakes a little more, and I do give kudos to DC for trying, I don't think DC is hitting the mark at all and so would never say that Marvel should try to do things "more like DC".
I sort of feel like DC's claim to making more serious movies stems from one character, Batman, and that what often goes unspoken is that Batman as a character lends himself to darker stories. Batman has had some very successful movies, and critically acclaimed with the Nolan trilogy, and it seems to have created a philosophy that all stories DC tells should be dark in nature. I adore the Nolan Batman movies, but it doesn't mean it's the right mood for Superman - and it's certainly not the right mood for Spider-Man and some other characters under Marvel's banner. Not that their movies have to be the laughfests they are, and they could certainly up the stakes, but I sometimes think DC fans think dark and serious = deep just because DC's most popular character at the moment is very rooted in dark and serious, and has been featured in some deep movies recently.
But honestly, my issues with BvS have almost nothing to do with tone. The dark and gloomy critique that I see thrown around about that movie didn't bother me in the slightest.
