Yeah I did that too. Covid cases per capita were under 1 per whatever in all of May in Iceland and then by the summer were 25X that and then by August 125X the May number. So by November they were already reversing and they shut down schools for a day to implement new restrictions in schools like masks. Muskie also didn't specify why that meant schools could open(and he never will). Also never specified how that applied to schools in the US and whether schools in the US met those criteria.

But I am guessing not in the way Republicans discuss it? Some issues you can't discuss with them like immigration because they go from zero to open borders. They foundational can't wrap their arms around a defund the police discussion.

I do not support defunding the police. I do support reforming the police. I also support reforming some of the laws they have to enforce that lead to needless interactions between police and civilians.

Once it’s time to cuff, you cuff. You’ll see him start, then get distracted and try to talk more to the suspect which gave him time/opportunity to resist and get into his car.

Taser would totally be appropriate for that situation, too. Lady cop pulled a gat instead.

What’s the weight difference between a gun and a taser? Has to be pretty noticeable?

take money away from police departments and use the resources elsewhere to better address myriad issue.

not add additional money and "reform".

Most people who say “defund the police” don’t want police departments completely stripped of funding, they just want the money to be used more wisely. Mental health is a big part of it.

none of this is novel or shocking! these seem entirely in line with what people's general sentiment is, and what the sentiments of our elected representatives are.

about a quarter of the population favors reduced police funding in their communities, certainly not "nobody" as drak contends.

When you defund something, it's hard for it to operate. So by defunding the police, you're essentially abolishing the police.
