They’re there in fresh white fish, too - it’s just easier to see them in salmon.

It’s a trade off: worms in fresh or pesticides & antibiotics in farm raised. Pick your poison.

Don't like salmon. Got one of those 24 hour noroviruses once and that was the last thing I ate. I convinced myself the salmon made me sick. Don't mind it on sushi though.

The parasites, anisakid nematodes, sometimes called herring worms or cod worms, are among the most common parasites found in fish and the majority of wild salmon are infected, said Michael Gänzle, Canada Research Chair in food microbiology and probiotics at the University of Alberta.

Data cited by the B.C. Centre for Disease Control suggests 75 per cent of wild Pacific salmon are infected with the parasite.

Just buy frozen. honestly in most parts of the country, frozen fish is better than fresh anyway as it's often frozen very quickly after it's caught. There may be a few dead ones in there, but you won't notice. Your fish will taste "fresher" and you won't have to overcook it. All animals have parasites.

Every time I eat pork, I think of my 7th grade science teacher talking about roundworms in pork.

I couldn’t tell you a damn thing about that class aside from that one specific thing, but I’ll never forget it.

The key is to just not think about it. If I over think what’s in them and / or their living conditions, I’d be a vegetarian. But then I remember how much I like meat, so that wins out.

There was some weird shit going on back then...like hysteria over pork safety...it's why most boomers overcook the shit out of pork to this day.
