It is hard to describe because liking / not liking a mix really is subjective. Plus I'm not an audiofile so I can't speak technically about the mix - just what I hear.
What I personally don't like about the mix is how "tinny/twangy" it sounds (by that i mean, it sounds like it's all treble and no bass). Most of the instruments are just abnormally sharp to the point they don't have a rich natural tone. The best example of this: listen to Roi when the band comes in during Minarets on LT7 and then go listen to the same moment when Roi comes in on Minarets on the BOWA encore version of Minarets. To me the BOWA version sounds much more rich, natural and balanced.
When all of the instruments are so "tinny" and sharp they just don't blend well together imo. In the end it sounds like there are 5, 6, 7 etc separate instruments playing rather than one BAND with 5, 6, 7, parts.
And just to clarify - I'm not complaining about the performance because it is stellar and one of the best of DMB's career (Crash, Two Step and a few others deserve to be considered top versions of the song). However I just can't enjoy the amazing performance because of how un-natural the mix sounds. It's like watching Avatar on a 1990's tv - yes you can tell the special effects are incredible, but you just can't enjoy/appreciate it as much as you would watching it on a big screen HDTV. I have the exact same issue with LT1.
If the show was mixed like Minarets from the BOWA disc I'd be incredibly happy.
