Re: In need of some golf tips...

Subbed in my dad’s 9-hole league on Thursday. Hit 6 GIR in a row (might be a record for me, not sure) and three putted 4 of them. Absolute worst score with my ballstriking should’ve been 38 and I shot 44 lol. Like to think I’m a solid putter but it was just embarrassing. Time to practice I guess!

41/43 today, need to get back to practicing knock down shots and flighting irons. I'm hitting the ball on good lines into greens and landing it where intended but it's rolling out way too much, occasionally into the rough.

Ehhhh, not really. I have a backyard that is 30ft x 50ft (approx) but we're in a row townhouse so MANY potential targets in close proximity for errant shots.

My in-laws do have a big farm that I've been using to bang balls into their fields (conveniently they live right beside a course so MANY stray balls are found there (200+ currently in stock at the farm) BUT that is about to end as they will be planting literally any day now.

To that end, I'm not much of a 'practice' guy, I'd much rather spend that time and money out on the course with my pals, but right now beggars cannot be choosers!

buddy of mine, assistant pro at a nearby CC, regripped my driver for me and dropped it off at my house on friday. we're chit chatting and he asks if i want a free lesson? you're god damn right i do. so we hopped in the back yard for about 30 minutes and he gave me some tips on my swing and grip. i'll be in NC next week so i hope to get out to the range 1-2x before hand to try out the suggestions so they're a bit more ingrained before i head down there and play a couple rounds

A lot of their stuff is to be sold in Europe where styles are a little more bold. You can't even get some of the colors they wear in the US. I see some of it on ebay for stores in the UK but not from the stateside stores.

I’m really loving my men’s club.

A good shot hit in “competition” feels amazing. So much more intense than the normal round just playing.

Plus with the pot box any swing could win you $50-100 on a par 3 and with my handicap if I make a birdie I’m pretty much assured to win money in skins.

Cub match play is next. Wonder how many stories I’ll be getting lol.

Played for the first time in a few months this past weekend. Complete scramble mode on the front nine. Couldn't get off the tee, consistently having to hit long irons into greens, putting was awful... stopped keeping score after the 7th hole.
I hit maybe 5-6 shots I was proud of the entire round and I think it took me until the 12th hole to have a wedge into a green (put that one within 8 feet at least!). I guess that's what I should expect playing once every 2 -3 months.

This is me from the Blues or longer out here. My best drive and I’m still 185-200 or more out.

Now that I’m playin a club I’m going off the whites and loving it. 100 to 165 more now.

I was just completely miss-hitting my tee shots and even a couple second shots on longer Par 5s. Lost quite a few balls as well.

My home course is short (6340 from the blues), so that's what I play. It's really only an issue on the Par 3s, especially the first, which can range from 200-220 depending on the tee.

I'm a big proponent to playing the right yardage that suits your game. Hate seeing people hacking away from the blues just because. 6700 is where I tend to max out.

I personally think that if you can't break 100 easily, you shouldn't be playing over 6,200 yards. If you can't break 80 on occasion, you shouldn't be playing 6,700+.

I played awful awful golf yesterday. Maybe one of the ugliest rounds i ever played. Tried to fix the slice, and ended up hitting it so far left it went into the houses. Hit several shots like that, but at least it was trees, and not houses. This is coming off my last round were I was hitting consistently great drives.

this. one of my regular golfing buddies is just so slow. and its compounded by the fact that he's not good. he takes forever with his practice swingS and is terrible at tracking where his ball goes after he hits it. which, since he's not good, is generally not where he wants it to go. so every round with him just takes forever

Walked 18 holes in 2:20 last night. Played back first with my buddy. Shot 43 with two doubles. Finished with three straight pars. Went to the front by myself. Parred 1-3, bogey 4, double 5 (birdied my second ball), par 6 and 7, bogey 8, and par 9. Made some ridiculous up and down par saves from 20-30 yards out. 82 with three doubles. Feeling good about it.

Can't wait to shoot 90+ next round.

Thanks Climb. My buddy and I joined this CC this year and it took a few rounds to get used to the quirks of it. A lot of elevated greens (30 feet or more). Can't use driver every par 4. Thick rough.

Went to the course I work at last night. Teed off on 4. Played 4-9 in even par. Went to the first hole and finished Double-bogey-bogey for a 40. Normally I wouldn't mind a 40, but I was two swings away from a 36.

Shot 10 over. 2 birdies, 6 pars, 8 bogeys and 2 doubles. Would have been significantly better if my irons were a little sharper. Missed the green and made bogey on every par 3. All 4 were left of the green. Had a good time.

Complicated. Short version is shot 88-87-86-86 in solo rounds, which was not what I was hoping for.

The condition of the greens and surrounds were bullshit. My cul de sac is more receptive. I had 1 legit look at birdie on a Par 3 or Par 4 over 72 solo holes. I could bitch about it for hours, but that’s all the 20 of us did the last 4 days.

Hit the shit out if the ball all weekend, was forced to open the face on wedges and trust my self around the greens to save pars, and really really grinded on a Saturday and Sunday. That’s the takeaway, and I’m focused on Florida in 6 weeks.

Definitely makes things hard having greens and short game areas like that, at least you were consistent and probably had fun with your friends.

Nice, the next golf thing I'm really looking forward to is in about the same amount of time

I have no idea why he hangs with us, but we have an ex-NFL player on our trip. After 3 years I finally got paired with him all day Saturday. Just a complete different species than me, but he really helped me see where I can improve. He’s so positive and so deliberate. No wasted energy, mental or physical.

Hard isn’t the word I’d use. It was so bad that I doubt we go back there next spring.

I have no idea how course management works, but they were just turning on the irrigation system on Friday morning.

Naturally, we got a ton of rain today. I’m guessing it will be in great shape for this weekend.
