Not familiar with this class/certification, but it should help as long as it's a reputable course/certification that people know and respect in the industry. If it provides an actual certification or something you can put on your resume and you are serious about that career path, go for it.
That being said, I'd imagine it would make you/him more hirable for an entry-level type role within that industry. If you can combine a compelling reason on why you think you are a good fit for software engineering and proof that you took the first step in prepping yourself for that new role (boot camp/certification) then I'd think you'd get an opportunity somewhere.
I decided to focus on legal-tech after bouncing around to a few different random sales jobs a respected certification within the industry was the first major step I took. It helped me get my current job for sure - but I knew that was something hiring managers in this line of work were looking for.
