Live Trax 35: Post-Gazette Pavilion 6.20.09

"This June, 2009 show at Post-Gazette Pavilion in Burgettstown, PA finds the band mid-support of its new album Big Whiskey And The Groo Grux King, dedicated to the life and legacy of LeRoi Moore. Although this is the first complete tour without the venerable Moore, the band still finds its groove having been on tour throughout the spring.

The setlist balances both older fan favorites alongside new numbers from Big Whiskey. Every song is delivered well and with a certain element of playfulness. Carter’s drumming is on fire and especially lyrical on Big Whiskey tracks Funny the Way It Is and Why I Am; the crowd is engaged and happily singing along to a nearly 14 minute version of The Stone; Tim Reynolds and Jeff Coffin deliver huge performances while trading licks on Crush; Dave does a great cover of Rye Whiskey, a traditional favorite; and Time Bomb and offer a fiery match made in encore heaven. The band takes masterly command on this now-classic show at one of their most visited venues.

Please note: CD pre-orders will ship on or around October 13. Digital pre-orders will be available to download on October 16."

When I saw the email that said it was an '09 show, I made a "something smells like shit in here" face.

    I stand by that face.

It's not necessarily a bad show, but I don't think we needed another 2009.

But hey, at least we get a release of the "traditional favorite" Rye Whiskey!

Not a bad looking show. I cant remember if I have listened to this. I remember people saying it was a solid show though.

I remember thinking Burgettstown 2006 was pretty solid. I don't have this show in my library, so maybe I've been missing out.

Still "eh" on an '09 release, but I hope to be proven wrong!

Literally the only thing to complain about with this show seems to be it's from a crowded 2009 tour (release wise).

This really is a well balanced old/new set. And the highs are very high.

I agree. It's actually not a bad show for 2009, but if they were going to do a PA show, could have been 7/10/04.

i think they are crossing off venues for releases me thinks. aka deer creek last release, now star lake. maybe WPB might be next? speculation of course.

i would have been ok with night 2 from 12' or 2013 show from here but i think this should be a solid choice, for an 09' show anyways.

Because it's better. I've been waiting a while for them to release this, long overdue IMO. If you haven't already, listen to Bartender, Typical, DT, and Pig. All fantastic versions.

    Re: Live Trax 35: Post-Gazette Pavilion 6.20.09

This was one of the best shows I have attended. I had a blast being there. Wouldn't be my first choice for a Star Lake show. 6.3.98, 8.4,98, and 6.26.2003 would come first. Maybe 2006. But there's some great stuff in this one. It's solid for a 2009 show, with a good mix of old and new.

Oh hey, there's also a new DMB Live from Athens, GA from 1994. Good stuff DMB!

    Boom! Perfect question.

6/20/09 is the 2nd best show in a weeks span of time.

This show is fantastic and better than SPAC IMO.

This is worth a buy. Ive been to Cville 2010, AC N3 and Alpine 2015 and this show is still my favorite ive attended

This was a rare show where Burgettstown got an equally great two night stand as SPAC did, great show for release...hope it sounds good. Odd there is no 24-bit option but honestly the 24-bit options to date have been as poorly mastered as the 16-bit options so not sure there is a point continuing.

    Two Step intro:

So go look out look out I said, go go look [???]
Stand on this edge, down as you fall falling
It's like it's calling me, it's like I cannot trust myself
To stay back from the edge, not to lean into it
Why driving through the trees, not to pull on the wheel
While standing up here on this hill not to lean until I start flying
Not to jump out of the loose train pulling into the station
Not to throw myself down on the bricks, fill [???] forget it
