Re: Acceptable tipping rate for delivery?

I've seen waitresses cry after not getting tipped. Some take it very personal.

    Here's what you do:

Calculate the distance from the pizza shop to your home. Multiply that mileage by $0.45, which is fairly standard mileage rate.

Divide by 3, cuz you know he is batching the shit out of that order (at least 3 orders per delivery route).

My favorite local joint is 6 miles away. At $0.45/mile, that is $2.70, which I divide by 3, which is a 90 cent tip.

I only know Texas. Here servers make $2.13hr. Then, 18% of their gross sales is declared as income and they are taxed on that (If their tables spend $100, the server declares $18 in income, regardless of what they were actually tipped) .

Obviously the sales go to the store, but the gubment assumes they are tipped 18% on every sale, so that's how their income is determined.

Entitlement? Get fucked. They're providing you a service and they expect, rightfully so, to be compensated for it.

It's can be advantageous to transition to a sort of barter system with service industry employees. I've used various knick-knacks from my shed instead of a couple bucks for tips. Waiters/Waitresses seem to appreciate the change of pace.

I once delivered food to a classy porn book manufacturer place. They tipped me with one of their books.

It was all classy airbrushed shit, and it was not appreciated.

You're trying to talk to someone who admitting giving a $0.02 tip to someone. That's a dick move no matter how you cut it.

Your posts seem to generalize the entire industry as sucking at their jobs and demanding huge tips for it.

I specifically carryout or dine-in only to avoid having to tip a driver.

Or because I hardly ever have cash on me.

I overtip so much on delivery. I understand the concept of tipping on percentage, but I'll usually just say keep the change for a $20 on an order that came to $15.50.

Although it's more laziness than generosity. I'm pretty sure I've Fone the same thing when the order was like 19.10, but I didn't realize I didn't have any singles.

On the contrary, I feel like it'd be awkward to give a driver a $20 for a $15.50 order and ask for two bucks back

I'm surprised how many people would tip $5 for a $12 order. Regardless, of whether or not you tip on percentage, that's still 40+% of the pizza. The only person I would tip that much is my Barber.

I generally don't base delivery tips on a percentage. I do a flat dollar per order, not percentage of cost. If I'm ordering delivery, it's because I didn't feel like going out to get the pizza myself. It's worth the $5. Giving less just seems cheap, but I would give more if I had a large order (like last year when we ordered like 10 pizzas for March Madness).

If I had a $50 order in a restaurant, my tip would depend on:
    1. How the service was
    2. Was my child with me and did he make a mess
    3. If it is a place I go regularly (esp if it is a regular waitress / waiter)

Yes, my tips always seem to be a lot higher when he's along!
He generally doesn't mind getting his hair cut and likes the girl that cuts it, however, this one time he decided to cry most of the cut. Kristen got a $20 tip that day, more than the actual cut was!

We're lucky in that sense that my mother-in-law (who they stay with during the day) is also a hairdresser. Never have to worry about haircuts.

I delivered for Little Caesar's and Pizza Hut while I was in college, as well as waited tables, and after a while you could definitely start to make generalizations/predictions about what kind of tip you were going to get as soon as the door was opened.

Not as awkward as it is when somebody gives you a $20 on a $19.73 order, then asks for their change back and don't tip you

I delivered for Little Caesar's and Pizza Hut while I was in college, as well as waited tables, and after a while you could definitely start to make generalizations/predictions about what kind of tip you were going to get as soon as the door was opened.

a friend of mine delivers pizza part time in a pretty rough area of Raleigh. he said there's actually nights that he loses money going to work because he gets NO tip for most of his deliveries in certain neighborhoods.
