it's just like every other car. don't be dumb enough to put 87 octane in a car like that or forget an oil change.

Not sure if you understood my point, since you just lolguy'd. But I'd be much more confident that a $100,000 vehicle is going to run like it's supposed to, versus a $20,000 car that might be more prone to issues. I don't mean to say I wouldn't be worried, just that you're paying for a much better quality vehicle.

my Audi is no more reliable than a Ford out of the box. It's all how you maintain/use it.

It's less about the car going wrong and more about me or others going wrong with the car .

The anxiety would come from human error, not worrying if the car itself would break.

Wasp stings. Just went out to mow the lawn, bumped a log just over the property line on my neighbor's lawn and got swarmed. I got stung at least a half dozen times during my sprint to the other side of the yard where the garden hose is. Probably would have been much worse had it been not for my mongoosian reaction speed.

what's a normal price to pay for a wedding/honeymoon? I'm in my buddy's wedding in October and he was just telling me they are expecting the whole thing to cost around $50k and that just seemed insanely high to me.

For a wedding of like 150-200 guests, that's about normal, if not low.

How many guests is he expecting?

    He's expecting about 175-200 I think.

That is crazy to me that that's about normal. Damn!

I had a wedding with about 200 guests and didn't even come close to $50k.

Of course a lot of that has to do with location. We did whole hotel reception thing too, didn't cut many corners when it came to cost. DJ, photog, videog, flowers, cake, etc...

depending on the location, it could be extremely low. I've been at $100k weddings for ~100 people

i disagree. most "normal" level cars (read: not super luxury Lamborghinis, etc) are not on the same level of reliability as their brethren. some cars are just built better than others

Well yea, true. I guess I'm basing this on weddings I've been to, which for the most part have all had live bands, been in places that probably cost a good amount to rent, etc. So maybe I'm just in a bubble of pricier weddings. But I mean, food alone for 200 guests can easily top $10K even at $50 a plate, not to mention liquor, so shit can get up there pretty quick.

But you have more experience than I do, I'm just going on what I've heard from friends/family stuff.

Also, yea, you can go either way for sure. You could easily spend $25k on flowers alone if you really wanted to .

About 160 people attended my wedding about a year and a half ago. It didn't come close to $30k, let along $50k.

We just sent out our invites this weekend and had 147. Our anticipated cost when all is said and done is around $50k, but we are having a band which is making that number way higher, in thanks to my parents' generosity. I'm also factoring in groomsman/bridesmaid gifts, hotel, transportation, etc. Only going on cost per person, if every single person showed up, we'd be around $20k.

but there's no way they all show up right? the person our venue assigned to us to help with planning told us to only expect between 2/3 and 3/4 of the people we invited to come, but that may have been after meeting us personally and realizing how awful we are

No, there is no chance every person shows up and that's what we're banking on. I think conventional wisdom is that about 10-15% of guests don't end up coming for your standard wedding. We're getting married on the Sunday before Columbus Day, so I'd expect that to knock off a few of the fringe people (like friends we haven't talked to in a while).

You have to think, we live one of (if not the) most expensive parts of the country, everything is adjusted for our area to be more expensive in total dollar amounts. I'm sure it's all relatively proportional to local/regional wealth.

Yea, though I was kinda keeping that in my head. I was more going by the number of people. I assumed that when you get to 175+ it added up quicker. I was thinking that I've heard that halfway decent food costs minimum $50/plate, so 200 people give or take some kids, is at least $10K for food alone. I don't know how much wedding booze packages are, but my club rings over $15k with 200 people on a floor, and that's with them actually buying drinks, let alone having it paid for by others. But I guess people maybe don't spend $10K on booze

I guess even if you did $10k on food, $5k on booze, $5-10K on a band, a couple grand on the venue, etc, it's still probably doable around $30k.
