Re: Marvel Cinematic Universe Fandom (MCUc)

This looks really cool, but it also looks like almost a completely different movie than what that first teaser trailer made it seem like.

This one was much more action based, no doubt, but also I mean, it's no accident the other thing's referred to as a "teaser".

But I'm just really hoping now what with them dropping this, it means it's much more likely we'll get Infinity War with Ragnarok. because I'd seen plenty of people speculating we'd get Black Panther here with Thor, and IW not until the Last Jedi. which honestly really bummed me out. They'd promised we'd have it before the end of the year, but hoping we wouldn't have to still wait almost 2 months for it. and of course we still don't know if IW will just be a proper copy of what got leaked at CC or something else entirely.

I heard this was supposed to be surprise-released a couple Fridays ago and then Vegas happened and they held it back.

Yea that was the whole point of them being so evasive with the release on that initial teaser and the trailer (which they'd never done before) they were gonna screen the complete first episode for the actual NYCC panel crowd there in the room and then just be, oh yea btw all the rest of it's online at netflix right this moment.

I know some movie blog people were speculating on netflix holding it back for up to 3-4 months due to Vegas, but I never bought that for a second. For one thing, let's be honest here, this is America, unfortunately I'd say there's a fairly decent chance we'll have at least one other "mass shooting" before another 4 months is out.

45/46 Positive Reviews so far for Thor 3.

Basically they all say it is a ton of fun and a lot of laughs....aka my super friend M Steng is going to HATE it.....Probably a ton of Bathos too.

Still kinda hoping they will attach the infinity war trailer...but realistically I think that is tied to the Last Jedi.

    I fucking love you, Aquaman!

For real though, I have such low expectations for Marvel movies these days that I may actually enjoy something like Thor 3. At least they've been up front with their marketing. The thing that pissed me off the most about prior Marvel films (specifically Civil War and Avengers 2) is that the marketing was super deceptive. Thor 3 knows what it is, a buddy action comedy, which is what we've been told all along. I won't see it in theaters but maybe I'll try to find it on Kodi in a month or so.

I'm going to attempt to watch the entire MCU before seeing Ragnarok.

Only ones I've seen so far:
    The Avengers
    Thor: The Dark World
    Captain America: The Winter Soldier
    Avengers: Age of Ultron
    Spider-Man: Homecoming

Seriously! It's a comic book movie, based off comics books, which have comedy and light-heartedness in them. What the fuck?

okay sorry but, have either of you guys ever watched either of the 2 movies the Russo brothers have now directed for Marvel? The Winter Soldier and Civil War. Yes, they have humor in them (as any quality genre piece should), but in no way could they sincerely be described as a comedy or anything like that. Certainly not anywhere even close to what might be described as being distracting (which yea I'll admit, probably would go for GOTG 2). There's some serious things going on in that corner of the universe. And so to lay it down already that that's all you're expecting from Infinity War? given you've got the directing team AND writing team that's exactly the same from each previous Cap movie (and I'll remind you that Markus & McFeely wrote The First Avenger as well).

just knowing what we know overall about this movie, even having "war" as part of the title, to think it's suddenly going to contain too much cheekiness and laughs, that just doesn't make any sense to me at all.
And the great irony to all this being, the Russos do have an incredibly accomplished comedy background, being major architects for the beginnings of both Arrested Development and Community, two of the best sitcoms of the last couple decades.

EDIT: alright my bad! UCFish, I only just realized I kinda misread your post, not getting the true inflection from just text. That you weren't necessarily ragging on it, sorry didn't mean to include you in that.
Although, to Steng, I can't imagine what point you're trying to make, saying you're angry they marketed Civil War as one particular thing, and you obviously didn't think it WAS that something. Not sure what/where your disconnect is on that.

You’ve most likely been paid off by Disney.

I’m just saying that all the Marvel movies are the same. It’s all comedy and nothing is at stake. I need STAKES! Superman died for the Justice League. There’s no way he’s coming back. I won’t even chuckle during Justice League because I’ll want other movie goers to understand how serious the stakes are for that film.

My issue hasn’t never been with humor in these movies. It’s with the overuse of humor and using it in places where it’s used to deflate dramatic tension. Civil War was a perfect example of it being poorly used. Winter Soldier still had a good amount of jokes but it was the best MCU movie to date because it actually make took itself a little bit seriously at the right times.

The only disconnect here is in your reading comprehension, friend. Let me try to spell it out for you. What I’m saying is, with Thor 3, they’ve marketed it as a straight buddy comedy, so there are no questions as to what you’re going’s to get from and expectations standpoint. To see it and then complain about too many jokes would be dumb.

With AOU and CW, they were marketed as serious, sort of darker movies, but in actuality had just as many terrible and poorly timed jokes as other MCU films. That’s what was disappointing about them for me, especially Civil War, expecting one thing and then getting another once my butt was in the theater.

On a completely unrelated note to anything in here, I was covering a high school boys soccer game yesterday and one of the team captains wore a Captain America arm band instead of the usual captain armband and has been wearing it all season. Found that pretty hilarious.

This is a pretty interesting article. an analysis on how Tony Stark's whole character arc throughout the entire MCU so far somewhat mirrors Marvel Studio's own existence up to their big 10th anniversary next year within the business.

So, I gave up on Inhumans. But still watching The Gifted. It’s held up pretty well with each passing episode.

I love to gobble up mostly everything Marvel (even though Agents Of Shield has been grueling at times) but hell even BEFORE the torrent of horrible reviews came out from the very start, I never really felt much interest for the Inhumans miniseries bubbling up. And haven't since watched a minute of it and don't plan to. I kinda doubt it being too relevant to fall in with any of the rest of the overall narrative of the MCU.

I mean it was good for a while, but it couldn’t keep my interest. I realistically could have finished it, but with all the other superhero shows I watch I didn’t wanna keep one I was only semi-interested in.

Ragnarok was definitely one of the more enjoyable MCU entries to date. Easily the best Thor movie (which is such a low bar to clear), but even beyond that I'd go as far to say that it's the best MCU release this year. Definitely go in expecting "Asgardians of the Galaxy" though.

I do have some gripes with it. Cate Blanchett is a tremendous actress, but Hela came off as yet another underdeveloped, one-note Marvel villain. I also thought they covered so much ground that it came off as disorganized and full of plot contrivances at times.

Thor has never looked more formidable though, and it was an absolute joy to see Loki and the Hulk again. Even then, Valkyrie might've been the MVP.

See I thought that Hela was actually not bad at all however the alternating back and forth made her story almost seem like a side story.

The only thing that bothered me and maybe I missed something was after they fought in the Arena why were Hulk and Thor just randomly in the same room after and basically acting like friends when the Hulk clearly did not seem to recognize him in the arena.

Other than that I really enjoyed it. Sad to see no Lady Sif however I guess she probably would have just died like the rest of the side characters from 1 and 2.

Also for sure the best Thor by far.....I can probably get on board with the best MCU movie of the year although I feel like Homecoming might edge it out a bit for me.

At this point, my critique of these movies really boils down to the impact they have on the MCU at large. I completely understand that he's just your "friendly, neighborhood Spider-Man", but I'm seeking higher stakes from the movies leading up to the Infinity War at this point.

Homecoming was definitely a nice change-of-pace and, mostly, standalone chapter though.
