I don't think "the" helps your ranking.
Nope. Just using the title of my alma mater. If you didn't know this it really is THE Ohio State University. Not Ohio State University.

Its pretty much NFL players who have made people hate that. During Monday Night Football.

Don't care. Liberal arts is on campus only to equal out the guy/girl ratio and bring down the rankings.

NYU #33, but for 3 of my four years we were the #1 Dream School in America. I tell myself that makes me special. But then I weep whenever I have a college loan payment due.

Wow. A thread I made three years ago gets topped?!?

Undergrad - Cornell University: #16 (lower than it's been in awhile. It got as high as #9 while I was there)
Law School - University of Miami (FL): #76 (ouch, that's a bit of a drop--it was in the 60s when I was there. It also costs $15,000 a year more to go there than it did just 10 years ago)

does anyone know what these ranking are even based on?

I think it has a lot to do with how much money alumni give, which is pretty dumb. But I could be wrong.

    Regional (North): #1 Villanova University.

I always wondered what made it a regional university: "Regional Universities offer a broad scope of undergraduate degrees and some master's degree programs but few, if any, doctoral programs"

    Makes sense, I guess.

That is part of it, but not all of it....hence why Johns Hopkins is ranked 12th. I know zero alumni who donate back, unless they are 65 year old mega-rich people.

Though, alumni giving is a decent testament to the overall college experience, if you think about it. People who LOVED their college experience are more likely to donate to that college, thinking that donating means future people will have a similar, or better experience.

I think they also base the rankings on job placement, graduation rates, ease of living, etc.
