I guessed this argument was coming and I disagree to an extent.
I just think there's certain crimes that if you decide to be an animal and purposefully utterly strip someone of their humanity, you don't deserve yours. And yes, I fully understand that this is barbaric and against things we stand for, yada yada, but at a point I don't really care. I really just don't.
And yes, there's obviously going to be nuance in cases like anything else, but just for the sake of argument, things like rape, pedophilia, premeditated murder, those are all things beyond deserving even an ounce of humanity back, IMO.
Like I hate drunk drivers with a fiery passion, and could probably easily argue that was a choice and they deserve something bad too, but the humanity in me does also understand it was an unintended accident, so the normal course of action suits me. But something done on purpose, like certain instances of the above...fuck you, you don't deserve jail.
I'm not an eye for an eye for every crime, like theft. So that's a bad slippery slope argument. These are people completely and utterly ruining people's lives. They don't deserve to be treated one iota better.
