Re: Link Park's Chester Bennington committed suicide

If the point is 9/11 suicides were justified I would agree. I wouldn't agree that unhappy musicians with young children qualify.

Why are the craziest among us pardoned and even pitied for their behavior? Yet an asshole "knows better" and deserves scrutiny for their actions? Do they know better? Why let extreme mental conditions off the hook when minor mental conditions are heavily scrutinized?

How is he being let off the hook? He killed himself. It's more about trying to understand what causes people to actually do this. Just saying he's a selfish prick serves nobody any good. Not really any way to 'punish' him at this point.

Plus PLENTY of other people who we'd consider mentally ill are institutionalized, so they aren't let off the hook. And plenty of crazy people are in no way pitied. Who pities the Mansons of the world, for example, besides their handful of cronies?

I agree there is a very fine line in what you're saying, but I think there's a general understanding of what humanity considers a sane person or not. Otherwise you could very easily go down a rabbit hole of some philosophical discussion about free will and nature etc etc.

But also, giving sympathy doesn't mean people can't or shouldn't be held accountable. If someone with mental issues commits a crime, something not horrible to make this example easy , we could still feel bad for them but still throw them in jail.

I read that the jumpers from the WTC were not considered suicides by the NY coroner, but homicides.

Why shouldn't Manson be pitied? His brain is more fucked up than someone who commits suicide? Poor guy.

I mean, if you want to pity him go for it man. We still punished him.

Re: Link Park's Chester Bennington committed suicide

Watched the Chester tribute concert for the first time last night on YouTube. When someone else sings their music, you realize what a treasure he was on vocals. Only had the pleasure of seeing them once with Incubus as the opener. Went to the show for Incubus and left a bigger fan of Linkin Park.

A band that never comes up on my Spotify daily mixes or recommendations. Gonna spin some LP this week to remedy that.
