Anyone else disappointed with You & Me's lack of success?

I thought this could be a big song. It's got that mainstream love song quality that I would think would catch on quickly. Surprisingly, it appears I'm wrong.

Because DMB's management is not pushing it...as usual. They made their money promoting BWGK at the beginning, released 5 different versions with different stuff on each one. Why should they care how the CD and songs do now? They have more improtant one hit wonders to exploit!

I do agree though-I figured with proper promotion it could have brought them back into the limelight for a while. Great radio friendly song-though most would agree not the best track from the CD...but radio singles never really are with any artist. Oh well-that's the music biz.

I tend to agree with this assertion. The only reason the label would be pushing hard for it on the radio is if they thought it would lead to significant album sales. They must have made the determination that it would not. So they will spend their marketing budgets elsewhere. They heavily promoted the album and first single at the beginning to make their profits and now they're on to other things.

Yeah it really just feels unnatural. Its close to being a ok song but it really doesn't fit well on this album. It really is more of a solo dave song and it crappy one at that.


I think ending the album with baby blue and the roi jam at the end of it would of been better.

It is a terrible song, but not terrible enough to do well on the radio.

Careful where you put your "We all". It has been one of my favorites since the first listen. And judging by the overall reactions, your definition of "We all" is probably actually a tiny fraction of all the "fans" who bought the album or attended a show.

Oh, and "we all" know that the BTCS version of Halloween is a jumbled, chaotic mess. I mean seriously... did they just record the sound of the machine eating the tape of the recording of that song. "We all" deserve better.

Nope, people who thought it would be a big song meant to say, a song in the same vein as you and me could be big. However when it is all said and done, you and me just isn't a good song. That coupled with the fact it was the third single meant, no one gives a shit. I said since day one it should not be a single because quite frankly it is the worst song on the album and it isn't even close. Shake Me Like a Monkey would have been a better third single. If I was making decisions it would have been the first single. Ballsy horn lines lacing an entire song would have been a great way to say "hey United States, we care again about making quality music."

This...it's actually gaining quite a bit of momentum on it's own merit because, like most of ya'll have said (the only correct statement in many of the posts so far) RCA really hasn't pushed it. it has been climbing the charts, not falling. and many stations are just now picking it up.

I like the song. It's an uplifting feel good song. Sure the lyrics aren't the greatest but I think they fit the music and overall mood of the song. As for radio success I could care less. I thought it would be a big one for them. But, whatever.

I'm disappointed with how bad DMB's advertising group is. They were doing great until DMB went to Europe, and it seemed like everything just...stopped.

Sometimes the ignorance of RL bashing is astounding. I don't think some of you realize what you are arguing, you just hear other people say RL sucks so you have to agree. Red Light is not bad at managing artists. They would not have an immense amount of respect, great successful artists, and essentially a fully self-functioning network of almost every aspect of music you could need if they didn't know what they are doing.

DMB has NEVER been big on the radio, even when they were en vogue. Why, then, after 15 years of mediocre radio results, would they want to force enormous amounts of money into the system when the moment for DMB to blow up on the radio is loooong passed. It makes no sense. They don't care about the radio. They don't lose sleep because FTWII or Dreamgirl of Grey Street didn't hit number one. They make their HUGE profits in other areas. Just about ALL other areas, and radio sensations rarely come remotely close to their longevity.

There is obviously a reason RL, RCA and DMB in general don't care too much about mass market advertising and radio promotion. Because it doesn't pay off. You do realize how much it costs these days to market in mainstream mass media, right? Enough that they aren't going to needlessly toss money away, no matter how much they have.

I dunno. At first, I really didn't like You and Me, and I thought there was a lot more they could have done with the chorus and bridge. But now, especially after seeing the video, I think I understand the song better. It's meant to be deceptively simple, and maybe a bit trite, but I think it's more of a reprise of Why I Am: "It's the you and the me of the world/Only one way out of the world." I think what the stupidly simple chorus lyrics in You and Me are saying, "You and me can do anything. Love and relationships with others is the only thing I need to 'reach the end of the world'."

So I dunno. I'm baked! But I really like this song now. And I hope it does get more commercial success. But still, definitely not close to the best song on the album.
