So, I've recently increased my mileage, and have been running 5 miles, about 4-5 times a week. Overall, its gone pretty uneventful, I've had some problems with my right knee (tendonitis maybe?), but it warms up after the first 5-10 minutes and isnt too bothersome. I have had something kind of odd the past week or so. At night, once I've sit down for dinner, when I get up I have really bad tightness/pain in my glutes. I normally run first thing in the morning, or around lunchtime, and never have any glute issues while running, its only later at night that I have this issue. I always stretch after running, including glutes.

Does anyone have any experience with an issue like this? Is it likely that the increased distance is causing this? Any advice on how to make this better?
It's the increased distance I'd say. Make sure you're really stretching well before and after. Shouldn't be anything too serious unless the pain is killing.

Thanks for response. The pain actually is very bad, really limits what I can do(I.e hard for me to pick up my daughter, bend down at all). The odd thing is that it's never sore while running, or right after, it's always later at night. I think one reason for that is that I'm a sales rep who's in my car all day, and sitting down for most of the day after a longer run may not be the best thing for my hammy/glutes.

Anyone ever have any issues with periformis? I'm readin up and it seems like that may be what I'm dealing with here.

I ran twice today and it felt great.

I'm trying to gain weight and get in shape. I'm pretty small for my age. Any tips on how to gain weight? I don't have a gym membership or anything but I've been doing some abb and leg workouts just trying to get in better shape.

This is a great site for figure out what kind of foot you have and getting you in the proper shoe to make sure you're not hurting yourself. They also review every single shoe bi-yearly. For those of you who don't know what kind of foot you have (high arch, low arch, neutral) this site will at least direct you to the kind of shoe that's best for you.

It's pretty simple. You just have to increase your calories from your norm. So if you usually take in about 2000 calories on a typical day, bump that up to 2500. That's the only way to gain weight. I guess the hardest part is just keeping up with how much you've eaten. There are apps for that though, if you have a smartphone.

Also, if you start working out on a regular basis, you'll gain about 10-15 lbs within the first few months. It's not really visible weight though.

Or just go to a local shop that specializes in running. Fleet Shop is where I went today. They measure you, then watch you run/walk. Then they give you a few options that fit your biomechanics. Great place.

This is also another option I'm not sure how available these types of places are that do a GOOD gait analysis. But yes, if you can find a quality place that gets it right, go there first. It doesn't hurt to know the kind of shoe you need and the kind of gait pattern you have though.

I was just trying to throw a great resource out there.

Oh, of course. I didn't mean to make that sound like you HAVE to go get a gait analysis. Just thought some people might not even know places like that exist. I know I didn't until recently.

I'd actually advocate ALL serious runners go get a gait analysis to make sure they're in the right shoe and protecting themselves. The wrong shoe can cause a lot of problems.

Yup, you'd be surprised how many problems originate at the feet, shin splints being one of them.

Same here most of the time. It just depends what song it is. Sometimes I have to skip through the composed parts.

I usually just shuffle my entire library though.

Just discovered this thread. Been running for about a year, love my Adrenaline 11s. Started out with the Couch to 5K program and ran my first 5K last May. Ran my first 15K 10 days ago in 1:37... felt pretty good about that time! Just did a 10K on Sunday morning. Been running twice a week or so for the last two months training for that 15K... doing 5 miles or so a pop. I'll probably be tapering off my running, as it starts to get ridiculously hot here in FL. My next goal is a half marathon... thinking in the fall. I may sign up to do the Disney Wine & Dine half with Team in Training...

I have the Adrenaline 12s. They're probably not too much different. I got to run twice tonight, and jesus--they are clouds compared to the Merrils I had been running in.

Nice, man. I want to get into the whole marathon thing sometime. I just don't really know where to start.

One night I was feeling ridiculously good and ran about 11 miles. On a typical day though, I run about 4-5.

About a month before my 15K, I went for a run that I thought would be a bit over 6 miles. Because of changes I made to the route, it was more like 7.3. Because of some 5 mile races I did in the weeks leading up to the 15K, that 7.3 miler wound up being my longest training run. People said that if you can do 7, you can do 9.3... and they were right. (Now, I had done a walk/jog of 10 miles in late January, but I don't really count that, because there wasn't much running). If you can do 5 easily, it shouldn't be too hard to train for a half marathon....

My normal run is a 5.2 mile loop that I do about 3-4 times a week. I am a slow runner but I can do it without stopping in about 48 minutes. I've been thinking about ramping up my training and going for a half marathon. I've never run a race before though, is this too ambitious?

Been running twice a week or so for the last two months training for that 15K... doing 5 miles or so a pop. I'll probably be tapering off my running, as it starts to get ridiculously hot here in FL. My next goal is a half marathon... thinking in the fall. I may sign up to do the Disney Wine & Dine half with Team in Training...
sign up early... it fills up fast. The wife and I tried to get in to it a year ago and it was full.
