Um, no. That's sadly myopic. Bands/artists evolve, at least the good ones. Defining DMB by Butch Taylor is ridiculous.

    True DMB sound...hysterical.

Holy shit! Wow, what an unexpected treat! 9/8/02 was such a great show, and I'm very happy to finally have video from an entire show I attended! Still don't know why they didn't just put this show on the DVD with a few of the highlights from nights 1 & 2, but all that matters is we finally have it now! And such a great way to end the DMB Drive-In Series! I always thought that was the most amazing encore: Dave & Roi, then Dave, Carter, Stefan, then the whole band for one last song! Bravo!

So, if I read this correctly, it isn't even worth discussing Grill saying something negative about DMB because ... he is a ball washer? that makes sense

This last Drive In is probably my favorite DMB show ever, not saying that because it also happened to become a Drive In but it's awesome it did

Video gets less chaotic after Grey Street. Made it through to Too Much and looking forward to finishing the rest this evening. What a pleasant surprise getting this show. Aside from the insane amount of cuts, I don’t know why they wouldn’t have released this all those years ago. But happy to have it now!!!

Can’t wait to get to that Lie in our Graves. Always thought Butch’s solos on that tune were perfectly fit. It was Bartender and Jimi Thing that got boring with Butch.

Was the audio for the 2002 Gorge show remixed for the Drive In? It sounds better balanced than the cd's I have.

I think the mix might have been slightly tweaked for last night's stream, yes. Felt like the audio was a touch cleaner last night than it was on the CDs they released back in the day. I flipped back and forth between the live stream and the original audio release on multiple songs to make sure I wasn't creating that difference in my mind, but I noticed a few things; Dave's voice sat back in the mix just a tiny bit better on the live stream last night, and his guitar had a little bit of a brighter presence last night as well, for example. Both adjustments improved the mix, for sure. I listened at the same volume, on the same nice headphones set up, so there were no variables while I was doing that.

I certainly wasn't expecting a difference or listening intently for one, seeing as every other drive-in stream from a Live Trax that they've done had identical audio to the original mix as far as I can tell, but it jumped out at me right away. If they did indeed alter the mix or at least the master a little bit for last night, it was done in a very tasteful way and absolutely for the better.

As for the show itself, I was pretty blown away by how great last night's stream was. If this was the last one in the drive-in series, major kudos to the band for going out on a bang!

Did anyone snag the audio from 8/30/2019? I know it's on DreamingTree from the SiriusXM rip but it's not the best rip. Was hoping someone got better quality.

It has to be, even comparing the clips from the dmb.com store versus last night shows a big difference. I sat last night, dialled in to Leroi's sax phrasing and I definitely feel the quality was there.

Was it me or did the Gorge 2002 drive-in seem like it was edited by the freshman video intern at red light.. too many cuts, holy smokes.

    Classy.

ED and SU are pretty much worthless albums to me. And none of the songs are "better" live.
Boyd was always the weakest link in the band.
Butch was an underwhelming musician and presence in the band.
Dave's not great at writing set lists.
Bringing keys back to the band was the least appealing option.
The whole horn section thing is not a great fit for a once far more free flowing band.

I've got issues w/ the band and they aren't even my favorite band. I've never put them a pedestal. You, however, like to assume you have a clue as to what I (or anyone else) think of the band.

They have continued to grow as a group despite so many fans being stuck in the past and unable to evolve with the band. Enjoy your presumptively myopic POV.

    And on seek up too...woof.

He's just a musician that connects with me, but despite being a member during what many here believe is the peak of the bands' existence, I'm a "ballwasher" for not agreeing w/ everyone.

Buddy connects w/ me and I was quite annoyed that they brought back keys after Boyd "left".

Ideally they'd get violin and drop the trumpet, keys, and extra guitar. But they aren't interested in do that and haven't been for decades at this point. If they didn't bring back violin, they could keep Tim, but he should mainly play acoustic w/ the band barring a few electric features. With the volume pedal and delay he can pretty much emulate most of Boyd's parts...

And we didn't just get a lazy screen rip of it, it's all professionally filmed. And to think the other two nights were professionally filmed too, I wonder if they'll be released in full at some point.

Seek Up, Proudest Monkey and Long Black Veil from this show are favorite versions and LIOG is easily in my top 3. As bad as the video is early on as Kevin pointed out I thought it improved a lot and back stage stuff was great.

I did a rough count because I was bored and had nothing better to do, Grey Street alone had about 290 camera changes, or one about every 1.1 seconds.

    That took some serious skill.

I noticed it seemed to improve after Grey Street when my wife had her first seizure.Instead of jumps, there were fades and the time between started getting longer. It's like they caught someone's kid at the editing desk and then fixed whatever the hell he was doing for the first few songs.

Also...Last night's Proudest Monkey (Gorge 2002) was my absolute favourite of all time and not just because LeRoi snuck the Flintstones theme into it.

Hahaha I thought about counting as well. 290 does not surprise me. I’m not going to complain about a free show, of which I’ve wanted to see for a long time, but that really was brutal. Grey Street was practically one shot per note played.

Proudest Monkey was heavenly. I may back track a couple tunes and start from there tonight and watch the rest.
Then it’s on to the PJ stream!

So, if I read this correctly, it isn't even worth discussing Grill saying something negative about DMB because ... he is a ball washer? that makes sense
From recollection, tho honestly not worth my time researching, he loves the current sound and makes it known via long drawn out posts. See his response directed toward me. something negative about big three material in the band’s prime, but praise for current? Yes-not worth paying attention to it. Myopic must also be his favorite word, which honestly doesn’t apply to either time he’s used it as an insult to me or jssmith. Also mentions growth but growth usually means improvement and they’ve just trugged along. Yet that’s called stuck in the past lmao with that logic must suck being a historian, generally speaking. I’ll always chat with ya TS, but can see the confusion. Should have filled in more blanks but it wasn’t worth my time. Alas now I’ve wasted more time than I wish to

I just thought the follow up was funny but it's all good, I both agree and disagree with things both of you have said. Grill saying nothing off ED or SU is better live is laughable and IMO they have always sounded better with keys and a jazzier type sound. He does have a lot of good points, usually long as you said with big important sounding words, he's a solid poster.
