Baseball / Basketball Cards

Wondering if anyone has any experience selling baseball/basketball/etc. cards? I saw something recently about the market being hot and I'm curious to find out what some of the stuff I have is worth.

What's the best way to find aprox value and possibly sell what I have?

Auctions are almost always the best way to assess value, so I'd check eBay for recent auctions and see how much the stuff you have went for.
I was just reading an article on this boom and I think we may have already missed the apex. But I certainly wouldn't mind unloading the stuff I have that has been collecting dust in a closet for 20 years.

1952 Topps Mickey Mantle with an SGC grade of 9.5 just sold for a record $12.6M. Unfucking real.

There was a PSA 10 at the National (on display, not for sale). Want to say it’s part of an MLB owner’s collection. I’m not that surprised at the price, vintage is super hot among the super rich collectors.

I dipped back into the hobby this summer. It's a lot of fun. Just got two Bryce Harper rookies for a great price. Been doing a ton of trading via Reddit as well. Basically swapping my childhood stuff for current Phillies.

Got this from my uncle who has since passed when I was a kid… still wrapped in plastic.

Still have all my cards from when I was a kid. Most valuable card that I own that I know of is a Steve Young rookie when he was with the Bucs. No clue what it’s worth.

It’s around, but pretty useless when it comes to actual value. It’s an outdated source for sure.

Best card I ever pulled was when I was a kid and spent $10 on a 1987 Topps pack and got Mark McGwire's rookie card.

Thinking back, it was always pretty useless. No one back then was giving you Beckett list price for a card.

The Rated Rookie with the trophy on the bottom? Yea, they printed like 100,000,000 of those.

Best pull from a pack I ever got was a 93-94 Michael Jordan Behind the Glass. $20 BIN's on eBay right now just sitting there so it's worth even less than that.

My favorite is my Famous Nicknames complete set. I worked so hard completing that set as a kid. This was before the internet so I had to do it through trades and card shops. It's not worth any money but it's fun to look at, seeing all those legends mixed in with some one hit wonders that no one remembers.

    Jordan
    Shaq
    Barkley
    Hakeem
    Robinson
    Domnique
    ...
    Harold Miner

The rated rookie is Donruss, the 87 Topps isn’t even considered a rookie card (his ‘85 Topps Traded is true rookie)

    Oh for sure!

It’s really sad what the “hobby” has become. I loved collecting as a kid, it’s nearly impossible for kids today.

I screamed when I pulled that Jordan card. It was at night and I woke up my Dad and he yelled at me.

All of my cards are still at my parents house back in Oklahoma. I have a few with me in FL, the aforementioned McGwire card and my '83 Topps Ryne Sandburg. I do have all of my comic books here, however.

As Matthew eluded to, cards were so over produced in the 80s thru the mid 90s that there is very little value for most cards. Obviously exceptions, but that’s the general rule of thumb. And condition is key, especially during this junk wax era.

It's too bad these things won't end up funding my retirement like I'd planned when I was a kid.

That said, I don't think I honestly ever plan to sell anything, comics or baseball cards.

It really is. I have some decent stuff (a few Harper rookies, a Trout, a Judge), but the real awesome stuff I have is the vintage I inherited from my dad.

It drives me nuts though that a rookie of some Hall of Famers, even 50s and 60s cards, are worth less than some fancy, shiny green Wander Franco card because it's numbered to 5.

And don't get me started on how expensive it is to buy packs anymore.

I have an Upper Deck 1993 complete set still sealed at my parents house. The only thing that was sealed for value that I finally broke down and opened was my Superman #75, the issue when he died.
