I mean...yes, but it becomes pretty clinical after a while, plus the disappointment can get a little heavy. my wife's mom and dad struggled very very hard to have her (they were 38 and 35 when they had her, having been married and trying for over a decade), so that weighed heavily on her mind too, which again is kind of a bummer/adds pressure.

We just bought a bunch of tests at the dollar store, seemed to work just as well That way if you are negative right at a week you can take another basically the next day for super cheap.

But depending on your doctor, they may not see you until about 8 weeks after a missed period, which is when it starts to feel pretty real!

    Good luck and maybe congrats!

Thanks for the input, guys! Just such a foreign thing to be going through especially since there are no clear answers and it all seems so arbitrary/random.

both times we have tried, we went through one or two cycles without success, then went back to the fertility kit and yahtzee! on that cycle.
Thanks for the suggestion! I'll run this by my wife, I'm sure she'd be interested. She's just been going by a few apps on her phone, I assume that having some physical indicator is much more reliable than relying on the apps which can likely only provide a best guess.

Yeah my thing kept being "what's next? We need a third party to confirm this or something, right?"

We went out that night and got 2 more tests, and even at that first appointment, I was like "so this is happening?" It was almost like they just started doing things and going off of our assumption that we said we were pregnant.

No, I get it, didn't mean to make light of something a lot of people face, we were blessed to not have to try beyond a couple cycles with each kid, I'm sure it becomes a very pressure-filled situation after that. But after a single cycle of not getting pregnant each time... I was always secretly ok with that.

In reality, it took us a year to get pregnant both times. For the first one, it was depressing, but the second one we knew it would hit if we kept trying.

There are extra wrinkles when it came to Sheena and I getting/remaining pregnant so all that plus the overly-clinical nature of what/how we were doing what we did got to me... only time in my life I've ever really had "performance issues"

However, there is a wrinkle in the whole situation. Long story short, there is an IUD stuck in my wife's abdomen. Somehow it made it's way up there. This basically means that she has to get it surgically removed on Thursday. It had to be at the end of the first trimester. Pretty simple procedure but always a risk having surgery when you are pregnant. Just hoping that everything goes as planned!
Congrats and good luck with her surgery!

She has two more days per her tracking app within which to start it, and if she doesn't get it by then, she is going to take a pregnancy test.

I know it is wayyyyy too early to get excited about anything, but for the peeps who have kids here, when do you first know about when conception has actually happened and that there's a little person starting to form? Obviously I am a total noob to this whole process so any insight/info would be greatly appreciated!
If she is a week past her period, she can definitely take a pregnancy test.
They can tell you like 5 days before a missed period, though obviously the closer to the actual period date, the more reliable it is (because it goes by the level of hormones in the body).

    Also, avoid generic pregnancy tests.
My husband bought one, it came back negative. I went and bought the Clearblue Easy ones and I was pregnant.

My wife is at 33 weeks with our first baby (we've been married for almost 11 years, started trying to get pregnant about a year and a half ago), so we're not too far from things getting crazy. We're having a boy. This week we finished taking an online birthing class. The baby's nursery is pretty much all setup. Just a few decorations to put up still. Everything has gone super smooth with this pregnancy so far. No morning sickness, no weird cravings, just a few aches and the stress of getting everything planned and organized. The baby has been kicking a lot lately to the point where it makes my wife laugh when it catches her off-guard. So we're getting pretty excited.

My older two are a 5 year old girl and a 3 year old boy who each have their own. We are having another boy next month. He will have his own room as a baby as well, but if at any point the two boys decide they want to share a room I'm not against it, even though we have enough for them to each have their own. I loved sharing a room with my brother when I was little.

Thanks for the warm wishes, everyone!

It's just so nuts to think about. I feel so ill prepared to be a parent

What's really cool though is how I just saw my wife in such a totally new light yesterday after she took the test and we got the result. I don't know what it is, but before yesterday I didn't think I could love her any more than I did before, yet somehow I felt even stronger of a bond with her.

    Re: Expecting/Baby Thread

    That's awesome, congrats!

Also something I am learning really quickly as a new parent, if you're holding your child and you know they pooped/are pooping, give it some time until you change them. I have been hit by 2nd and 3rd waves in middle of changing or right after changing.
