Re: The Head and the Heart

Anyone going to see them tonight? After 3 or 4 listens I'm still bored by the new album. Maybe the new songs will sound better live.

saw these guys in philly on 11/9. they were pretty awesome. I enjoyed the first time I saw them the most, but I really enjoyed the new material live. just wish I saw "summertime" as that's my favorite track off the new record. their original material still rocks. who's got a list of their unreleased stuff? charity played this song on guitar called "these days are numbered." never heard of it before, but it was pretty cool.

What Do you folks think of the new album. I've listened to it a couple of times now. I can't seem to get behind it. It's not awesome.

If you are referring to Summertime that is my favorite on the album by a long shot.

Re: The Head and the Heart

Another Story and 10000 Weight in Gold are the best songs, imo. If there is a better song about a tragedy than Another Story, I haven't heard it. Cruel is great too. The songs that Josiah wrote are the weakest imo (Fire/Fear and Josh McBride). I only say that because those songs were much better in their original form, but THATH was trying to differentiate themselves from the likes of the Lumineers and Mumford on this album, so they totally changed the sound. They are leaps and bounds a better band than those 2, and I don't think they needed to get away from acoustic pop folk to prove that. Charity's songs show some potential too, but Summertime definitely takes some getting used to..although it seemed to be a hit in the live setting.

THATH fans are PISSED. Josiah wasn't at the show tonight. They played 50 minutes then went off stage for encore break. Then they never came back for the encore and said that it was a "public safety issue", possibly a bomb threat. Weird night.

In the Facebook apology Josiah is listed as (Josiah). Just really strange all around.

I think that is just to acknowledge that he wasn't there.

It'd be stranger if his name was left out. It'd be funny if they had a fight and he refused to play, and then he called in a bomb threat.

He probably has the least important role in the band anyway - any news on why he wasn't there?

    He was sick.

But whaaaaat? He's lead vocals on a lot of songs. You can switch out the back line all you want but the front three are pretty important.

I probably overstated it a bit. I'm not a huge fan of his within the band. Hope he gets better though.

I agree about the front three. can't really change them at this point...that's what makes this band so great

That's too bad about last night. Sounds like they even had their techs tuning their instruments during the break and then the lights went up. Weird.

They are one of my favorite bands to see live. Can't wait till the fall.

I agree in the sense that I think Jon should sing lead on every song and Josiah should do harmonies.

I met Jon after their show in Houston this past nov. He talked to me for 45 minutes at the bar across the street, could not have been cooler and more humble. I agree that he comes off as "thinking he's cool" while on stage, but shit, playing in a successful band in front of thousands of people is pretty damn cool. Like Lee said, Jon is the band. He's written all of their best songs. Outside of rivers and roads, Josiah's songs are largely forgettable.
