It was what made Lost stand out to me, and to lots of other folks who enjoyed it, the way you could deeply connect with the show through the characters. That hasn't happened with me and any other show, other than possibly Breaking Bad on some levels.

The end of the show was to resolve your attachment with those characters and to send them off. You got to see lost friends return, and characters you had connected with and formed attachments to, like your favorites, move on. If you watched and connected with Lost the way it was intended, everything was resolved for you because what was important in the show was the characters, and not the questions. If you watched the finale and got mad because Sawyer didn't explain what happened in the Tampa job or if Did Ben killed the real Henry Gale, you would never be satisfied with any ending presented to you because that wasn't the point of Lost. The point of Lost was the people, and it was very apparent since day one that that was what mattered most.
came in here to post this. well said man

Dexter would SWEEP this poll if re-done.

Take that back. I liked Zep from Saw.

But the last episode of TOS is terrible.

    Haven't watched TNG.

Food drops from the Dharma. Christ, he even says he had lost weight. Then we see him drink a tub of ranch dressing. Watch the show, don't use cliff notes and decide you don't like it. Someone said it earlier, they answered every question that needed answered. If you didn't like that answer, too bad, but they are all answered.

Every question wasn't answered. Plus, that's just not plausible (meaning dude should have lost 50 pounds). Again, LOST fans like to deny objectivity. Whatever though. I couldn't care less.

If the finale was so amazing, it wouldn't be argued, like the BB finale. No arguments there.

Dexter is the new correct answer. Seinfeld's was bad because it was such a let down. It wasn't a bad episode, it's just that it wasn't a strong finale.

Which made it a bad finale. If it was just a stand alone episode I think it would have worked. Assuming they didn't go to jail.

See, I see it as the reverse for Seinfeld. I think it was a strong finale, but a bad episode.

A good finale, to me, is one that gives you proper closure to the show and provides proper resolution to the characters.

Seinfeld succeeded on both counts, IMO.

A great finale does the above, and is also a great stand alone episode. Seinfeld fails on this count.

I don't feel Seinfeld did any of that at all. It resolved nothing, and gave zero closure IMO.

Well, nothing needed resolving. That's kind of the point of the show.

And the closure comes in the dialog at the end, which is exactly the same as the dialog at the beginning of the first episode. They're never going to change, no matter the setting, no matter how much time goes by.

edit: Though it did resolve who really won The Contest.

I get wishing the episode was funnier, or less clip ridden, but I'm not sure what people wanted out of the finale in this department.

    1) The Seindfeld finale wasn't really a finale. It felt more like a "clip show" type of episode that would have been good if it led into the finale. It sucked as a finale.

    2) Sopranos I can live with. I get it.

    3) I watched the 1st episode of Lost on netflix and I am shocked it turned out to be such a popular show.

I have never watched Lost so I cannot comment or vote.
The Soprano's was a bit of a disappointment - mainly the cut to black part.
So I voted Seinfeld because I am not a big flashback episode fan and certainly not for a finale.

I started watching it a couple years ago, as I never saw an episode when it actually aired.

It was pretty fantastic until they ran into "The Others" (Season 3-ish?). It slowed to a crawl, I had to move out of the place I was renting, and I just kind of forgot about it, so I never finished.

There's just too much TV to get through before I can get back to watching Lost again.
