Solo sucked.

Imperial: Who are your people?
Han: I don't have any people. I'm alone.
Imperial (looking thoughtful): Hmm... Han... Solo!

Solo did not suck. That line was cringe but the movie was a fun popcorn flick. No one asked for it and we wouldn't be worse off if it had never been made, but it was not a bad movie.

Yeah, I always see RO usually in the top 4 or so of Star Wars films when people list their favorites.

it's down there with the prequels for me but I'm in the minority.

I guess that's fair. I didn't feel like the Han Solo portrayal was at all accurate to the character from the original trilogy which soured me to it from the beginning, and I felt like it was basically just a checklist of things we knew happened to Han before the original trilogy (meet Chewbacca, meet Lando, win Falcon, do Kessel run), but I guess there wasn't a lot about it that was egregiously bad.

I thought they nailed the Solo character without trying to emulate Harrison ford.

I feel like Han in the original trilogy was cynical and sarcastic. I feel like because his cynical and sarcastic comments in the original trilogy were often funny, the new filmmakers decided that Han Solo is funny, but it was in way more of an upbeat/joke cracking kind of way.

Now, I can get on board with the idea that a younger Han without so much world experience would be more optimistic and less cynical, so if that's an intentional decision they made for that reason then that's cool. Maybe they would have had him become a bit more beat down by the world in the sequels that won't happen now.

That is a problem with the movie that we're shown everything that we were told about the character from the original movies. I guess the things we didn't know where:

    Had a love interest
Was a soldier for the Empire

Which isn't a whole lot. But unless you want to pull a Rogue One and have Han team up with a bunch of nobodies I'm sure people would have gone "but where's Chewie? Where's the Falcon?"

Maybe you have a movie about Han Solo that is just him and Chewie doing jobs and escaping danger that isn't an origin story?

Indeed. He still has wits and the know-how to get himself out of situations. He's more doe-eyed and in love and not as hardened of a character as he is in Episode IV or V. Which I guess is a good thing as he becomes that way either due to the events of Solo or the period between movies.

That was the plan going forward, I believe, until the movie bombed.

Solo is in the bottom half of Star Wars movies but it’s not a bad movie.

The things i didn’t like about it (these first two are rather nit picky) but seeing chewy and Han fighting and seeing Han being in love with someone other than Leia. But the thing I least liked and is probably my biggest gripe is it seemed to retcon the relationship between Han and Lando.

Empire leaves you with the impression that Han and Lando were really close and Landos actions at cloud city were more a function of being left with no choice by the Empire rather than malice toward Han.

Solo left you with impression that Han and Lando HATED each other.

Now, maybe Disney planned to further explore the relationship in future movies that now won’t happen.

I was perfectly fine with the differences in the Han character. It was fairly obvious to me he turned so cynical as a result of Qira and Woody’s betrayals. Which is works in the context of the origin story.

That movie reeked of upcoming sequels. It needs more movies to fully tell the story they were going for. I have a feeling the Lando relationship would be better examined and we'd get more explanation as to why Han was cynical and sarcastic.

If nothing else, I'd love the Qui'ra story line to be finished somehow. That was the most interesting story arc in the movie.

Fuck it, put out Solo Duo and make sure Darth Marth is front and center in the marketing campaign. People LOOOOOOOOOOOVE that character (or at least mention he was the best thing about The Phantom Menace) let them put their money where their internet comments are.

Would the movie be shit show? Heck yes.

Agreed! I loved it (in fact, am watching it now on Netflix which caused me to post on the boards).
New issue of Vanity Fair has a photospread of images from The Rise Of Skywalker. Kylo and Rey are engaged in a duel. And there's yet ANOTHER desert planet.

I like to think Han and Lando had interactions after Solo...but didn't Chewie seem a little apprehensive in Empire when Han mentioned the Lando system?

The story I wanted to see, which is non-canon, is the situation with Han and Boba Fett in the imperial academy together, and Fett frames han for murder, which is why he goes on the run.

I know, it was Leia who mispoke when Han said "Lando", and she goes "the Lando system?" I should have been more clear.

I'd take RJ any day over D&D. Granted, I'm an unapologetic RJ fan but D&D royally fucked up GoT, I don't want them getting into SW at all.

D&D are outstanding storytellers and world builders, who got complacent and just wanted to end the show. Their ego wouldn't let them give up the reigns.

The first 2 movies in their trilogy will likely be great, the 3rd might suck

I have never followed GoT, but judging by the reactions from friends who do watch it I'd say I agree with you there.

I just hope these Ewan McGregor rumors actually end up being true this time.

I know this is sorta a tired argument, but RJ made the two greatest episodes of Breaking Bad in its run. I would love to see what he can do with his own SW trilogy. He's a fantastic storyteller and huge fanboy.

Very excited for the Obi Wan Disney+ content as well. Seems like more than a rumor at this point.
