Re: Summer 2023 Tour Rumors Thread

If they do a stadium run, I wonder if they would do it like Green Day and Chili Peppers did the last couple years where they bring in some beloved opening acts; Green Day brought along Fall Out Boy and Weezer while RHCP brought out The Strokes and Thundercat.

Who do y’all think would be some good opening acts?

Blues Traveler and Barenaked Ladies would be some good 90s nostalgia.

I'd go to that. I'll tell you, I saw a bunch of concerts this year, including Aerosmith's 50th anniversary with Extreme at Fenway a few weeks ago, but one of my favorite shows was Toad the Wet Sprocket/Gin Blossoms/Barenaked Ladies in Gilford. Just a blast.

I will say RHCP was awesome at the TX Rangers stadium the other night.

If DMB is going to do stadiums and have openers and make it BTCS focused they should bring out Alanis Morissette as the opener and have her guest on songs. Then also bring in slightly newer/younger band that are rapidly gaining in popularity and fits their genre.

That being said, I have this feeling Alanis is persona non grata.

Alanis can headline her own tours at the same sized sheds DMB plays. She's not going to open for them.

BNL was my first favorite band, got into them because of my mom. My dad hated them. Got into DMB because of my dad, never lost interest. Them touring together would be hilarious and awesome.

The Green Day tour sold out every night of the American leg with the exception of I think two shows...was the greatest night of music I've ever seen.

Seeing them at the local house of blues for $30 and then seeing DMB in an Ampitheater in the same summer >>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Unless they had the Flecktones openers at this point are a moot point outside of the alpine gorge run. It would raise the price of admission and in a stadium setting would push fans further from the stage.

I see a lot of older gem acts at my local smaller venues all the time in the same summer as DMB and it's better. I can got pit for Avett Bros in late may at a small music bowl in New Haven, and a few weeks later I was rail at DMB in June when they hit Hartford.

People bring up the hella mega tour but financially it is easier to book 3 bands like that in a stadium and keep costs low. Heck I saw Taking Back Sunday, Weezer, and Blink 182 at the Meadows in 2009 for the same cost as a DMB show would cost in 2009.

with no inside info whatsoever---I wouldn't think they'd do a tour where they played BTCS every night. I would think they might do a tour "celebrating" BTCS and play a lot of songs from it (that vary from night to night), but not a rote PNP...Spoon every single night. how would you even do a multinight stand that way?

A BTCS tour especially 25 years later is a gimmick, and sounds like what a nostalgia act does.

That doesn't fill stadiums across the country. If anything it would help the declining gorge numbers and lawn ticket sales across the country. It would also be awesome to have the caravan type idea (on a smaller volume of act scale) in the Amphitheater's.

I always thought the Gorge was the best Caravan setup because they just did it in the actual venue with elevation instead of a flat field.

If they were to have a special BTCS tour + Guests I would be cooler to do it at SPAC, Camden, Deer Creek WPB and any other major 2 night stand weekend. Then mid week shows perhaps keep it just DMB.

Many of the larger Amps on tour have 18 to 35K anyways so doing it at a ballpark or half empty football stadium with 30K doesn't make it worth it because you're adding 10K more people who really have seats miles away from the stage.

I so deeply wish that DMB would begin to embrace the fact that they *are* a nostalgia act. guys, these men are all pushing 60, with the exception of stefan, who's pushing 50. they aren't on the cutting edge of anything anymore. embrace nostalgia.

LOL, it's going to be a new album tour. Was reported today that they were in the studio yesterday in LA to start putting the "finishing touches" on the new album (those words straight from Rashawn's mouth).

Flecktones would definitely raise ticket sales UM not so much. I am a huge UM fan go to at least a show a year, but the casual fan isn't going to care about them or truly understand their greatness. And UM as an opener now would be such a tease given how they jam.

I agree dmb won’t do this because outside of Charlottesville 2016 they never really acknowledged anniversaries. but John mayer played continuum in full a few years back. Set 1 a mix of non-continuum songs and set 2 continuum in full. So it can be done.

John is more in tune with what the fans want and actually still aims to please his fanbase. Dave could care less about intentionally being that innovative.

Mayer also played born and raised front to back a few weeks back to raise money for Montana Floods.

I went to opening night of the Sob Rock tour this year and there was no acoustic mini set in the middle and fans were upset. After covid adjustments and pauses the acoustic mini set was a permanent feature.

Keep the same energy with Dave and the band. Fonz and Dave have sterotyped the people of Florida and Texas and spoke down upon them based on politics and then still decide to perform there and make money lol.

I'm aware. If Dave or another member said F America, I'd stop following the same day.

This is the issue, if they just stayed to playing music they are a GREAT Live act. I have seen them twice and they were fantastic but I agree his politics and attitude take a away from what otherwise is a great show.

I would be down for one night of Wrigley over two nights of Northerly Island.

Skipped Northerly in 2021 and honestly not looking back. Selfishly need a Nashville show again, too much fun and the bar is pretty low to top 2019.

with no inside info whatsoever---I wouldn't think they'd do a tour where they played BTCS every night. I would think they might do a tour "celebrating" BTCS and play a lot of songs from it (that vary from night to night), but not a rote PNP...Spoon every single night. how would you even do a multinight stand that way?
for one night runs, they could always slide the whole album in the middle of a set somewhere. play 5 songs before, 5 songs after (give or take). If they do a limited run (10-15ish dates) they could do no repeats outside of the album through the whole tour

for multi-nighters, do what is mentioned above for one night and then have another unique set the next. or split the album into chunks and spread it out through all the dates

I second this. Feed me a Saturday night at Wrigley. June 24th or July 8th.

Unless the band moves to the Widespread Panic model of "three show run weekend" every 6-10 weeks you will see a similar summer tour in 2022 to 2021 to 2019 to 2018. They still can tour with high energy throughout an entire summer run so that isn't happening for year(s).

Some baseball stadium shows would be cool but Dead and Co. is going to be taking some of those dates for sure with two night runs at Wrigley/Citi/et. on their farewell tour so not sure they make that transition next summer.
