Thanks so much for putting this together. It's great to have a clear recording of at least 1 of the 2 nights in Camden!

Is the Raleigh show the best one of these overall(sound quality + performance)? Thoughts?

It was a great show. I second what Nolan wrote on TDC:

They've never played Space, Minarets and Ants in that order much less segued them all, which I thought was a really cool way to end the set. Encore was epic, didn't think I'd ever see PFWYG again. Couldn't really tell Dave's vocals were shot in Halloween in person. This was my 3rd and final show of the tour and the best of the 3. One of the best shows I've seen in Raleigh!

I think everyone on here would take a show that included Stone, Crush, YNK, Maker, Rhyme, Minarets, Ants, PFWYG and Halloween.
To me, the second half of the show that these guys played was awesome, probably the best hour of the tour (together with SPAC N2).

I’ve also starting to figure that there might be a pattern that Dave uses to write the Friday SXM setlists. In the latest weeks they try and test the tunes on a non-XM show (a Saturday, usually) and then they played the same on the following Friday for the SiriusXM stream.
The encore of PFWYG + Seek Up (fake) + Halloween was roadtested at SPAC N2, very much acclaimed, and then replied for the Raleigh show that was streamed.
Same happened for Fool in the Rain (debuted at Alpine, streamed the following Friday at SPAC) and, I guess, some other stuff.

Are some of these getting converted down to mp3 before going out on the radio?

I have no idea. A suppose it is a combination of factors, including the venue.
Someone in TDC reached the guy who takes care of the streams, asking why some shows last year were really bad, and he replied:

Aside from venue, weather, and such, Xcacel is also working with a lossy stream from the start and trying to make it go as far as he can to make it sound better to the average listener. Any EQing beyond utilizing gain to make it louder is going to add in different things and affect the non-music equally. Some levels of EQ will make the band sound great, but the background noise will sound off. This is why you'll also find very few tapers that do any sort of EQing. Most just bump the levels up, maybe roll off some lower end if they were close to the stacks, and leave it be after that. It's less about what you can do in post and more about getting the best source possible so that you don't have to do anything in post.

It's all trade off in the end.

On my own recordings, I'm very very picky and will redo it a number of times to get it sounding as best as I can. But even then, it's still minimal and most related to rolling off the bass as it is usually too heavy for my liking.

I just assumed the XM shows were a "live" matrix of SBD and AUD. So not sure why that sound would come off warbly and muddy like a 128 mp3 does unless the signal they are using to broadcast is weak at times or something. I've noticed some shows, like the Denver show get worse as the shows goes on.

I understand the broadcast not being lossless quality as well.

Your tape ares great! Thanks for all you've done for us over the years!!

The Denver show didn't have great sound to begin with, being there in person. Don't know if the cold/moisture had anything to do with it, but it sounded like an amateur was running the mix. It got better both nights around song 7 or so when they start to turn it up, but the first few songs both nights were pretty rough mixes.

I know they no longer do soundcheck, so I wonder if they used previous settings from the venue and the humidity levels were completely different as Denver is usually as dry as it gets. Don't know how much that effects it.

Now I remember something else in a video interview by Marcus @monizzle to Ari from SXM. If I al not wrong they talked about the issue, and Ari said that they’ve been working hard to improve the quality of the streams, and mentioned that Rob (Evans), is working with them, today. That was confirmed in another interview by Ari to Dave.
And I don’t know where, I’ve heard that the broadcast signal from the App / web is much better than the one from the car-radio, and richer of information. I guess is a matter of bandwidth. The extreme quality from the web was, infact, quite good, this year.
Combining all of that, and considering that Evans knows his job, the explanation that I gave to myself is that the majority of the problems are happening during the downstream on site. Quick connections and stupid stuff like that. In Denver it was amazing how they could have lost the stream, for two songs. This is the bottleneck imo.

Everything that greppson said is very true. And it is not a case, since he is a great taper
Reworking a stream is still possible, because that is more in the range of what mastering is. I am working with a file which is usually quite raw, and if I process it mildly, it is still possible to maintain the non-music stuff to an acceptable level (most of the times).
This is rarely possible with AUDs, that’s why I find those frustrating. Everything that you touch, in a tape, has a counter-effect. It is quite difficult to work on those, and greppson is also right on the treatment that tapers give to the tapes. If you modify them too much, you end up wasting them. The only thing you can attempt is to try to diminish the annoying frequencies, I.e boomyness or harshness. I have never succeeded in eliminating muddyness, because I end up with unwanted effects, and also I have never found the cure for reverb of Dave vocals which are present in some tapes. But I am new to the field, consider that.
Speaking in general, mastering cannot fix big problems, it is not a magic wand. It is more about improving what is already quite good.

9.16.2022 - North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre, Chula Vista, CA

    Dave Matthews Band
North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre, Chula Vista, CA
    Sept 16, 2022

    * Important *
Unfortunately, connection was lost during the original stream, so I had to find one of the replays to capture it.
What happened is that the recording was already deeply processed, and in a brutal way.
A rough compression was applied by someone (I am sure wasn't Evans), that wanted to make it "loud", with the final result that he boosted the chatter of several decibels,
and you can notice it between the songs. I did not apply any further compression, of course.
The file was also criminally edited, removing dead time between songs. I don't know what software they used to do that, but I could easily find gaps in the splitting point that they have used.
In this image you see what I am talking about.
    https://images2.imgbox.com/4a/d3/FOXlGPNO_o.png
I have removed the gaps, but you can still hear a slight change in volume at the original splitting points that have been used.

    * Thanks *
This is the last rip of this tour. A big thanks to everybody that encouraged me and wrote, on the boards and privately, you gave me a good feeling everytime. This was a great tour, imo, and I think that some of this rips will remain in my rotation for a while.

    Notes:
This was captured from the SXM replay.
Some weird happen. The Davespeak before Windows, for example, is truncated. Also, Why I Am was missing, for mysterious reasons.
In any case, the live rip will be available shortly on Dreaming Tree, which won't have this issues.
