I definitely remember reading on old message boards that Carter thought Tim played too many notes and wasn’t into it. Also recall there being talk of some sort of rift with Dave and Tim over money which led to the time apart up until they started playing again in 2003. (I have no inside knowledge of this, just recall what I saw on message boards).

I once thought there was some kind of rift between Tim and whoever in the band, that was my explanation why he had only guested once after the fall '98 tour. That might have been overblown by people. But I don't know.

It's been handed down as lore. I've seen several people try to find this quote over the years and no one has. They had never had someone tour with them before, and it took another 2 years before they did again. It wasn't their type of thing, and not out of character a year later. They didn't add Tim then drop Tim, he wasn't even supposed to keep guesting after Cincinnati at first, and he added the rest of the shows minus the one he had the prior commitment, and missed Greensboro.

I see it as a fanbase rabid for knowledge and a question never answered, and maybe someone saw a comment that was want to play their own style and sound, and it's blown into a rift.

That quote would not be hard to find, and no one has managed to do it. It's a myth for me.

Crazy how we're still two weeks out from this. Do they really need this pre-order period to know how many to print?

60 LTs in, they should have a pretty good idea by now. And like you said a while back, if they are worried about overprinting, just do a more limited CD release alongside the digital formats. Us collectors will buy up the CDs and everyone else would be satisfied with a download.

There's zero reason for it to be this long. I'm still very excited for this release because it's a show I've personally been hoping for. But with every LT release cycle, I see an initial excitement, then a couple weeks go by, and it loses steam. 6 weeks is too long for archival releases, consumers are ready for the next one by then.

I get the delay. Since they still produce these physically, they don't want to make too many for a release that has little demand, or produce too few if it has high demand.

But they should just release it only digitally then.

DMB management: just release these digitally the same day you announce. This isn’t 2000. The music world has progressed.

Get the preorder for the CD for those that want it. But just give a 1 week notice or something for the digital release. Charge us $15 for it and quit doing these ridiculously long waiting periods. Tons of artists release digital only show archives and it's day of.

Do they really need a pre-order to know at this point? I imagine the sales for these things from the pre-order period through the first couple weeks past the release date are all pretty similar across the various volumes. Am I incorrect? And I'm not talking about the first 10 or 20 LTs, they may have sold more varied numbers. But LTs 25-60 have to be pretty similar sales.

If they are going to go the digital only route (I imagine they will one day), I would hope they'd still do a limited CD pressing for the collectors. Once the CDs are gone, they're gone. But you can order it on the day of announcement and download the digital formats instantly.

They should have a good idea by now. You're right, do it like how the Grateful Dead do it and print a limited number of CDs based off their past sales.

Maybe...JUST MAYBE..... they release SBDs the next day after a show. I know, crazy idea. They'd be the first band ever to think of that. Include it in the cost of the ticket.

i remember i used to preorder all these things, stop caring about this series once i missed a bonus disc a la 43 or something.

LT 17, 18, and 38 are all very very magical, and this release should be as well, given it's in the best era of this band, IMO, 95-97. it's really cool listening to tapes from this era in a study type of format, analyzing their maturing sound but still with that fresh rawness of a hungry band.

Management should make '94 a priority if they have any multitracked fall shows.

Is art work even a consideration in selecting these? What if they have a multitrack recording but no real stock photos of the night or venue? Does that get weighed in?

They used this picture for a 2000 show just several months ago-

I don't have the best attention to detail, but I GUARANTEE this photo is not from 2000. Maybe 2006 or 2007.

LT60 was announced June 28th and isn't coming out until August 12th. For point of reference, Come Tomorrow (a studio album) was announced April 25th and was released June 8th. That is the same timeframe. That is whacky.

They want 6 weeks of pre order so they know how many they need to make.

Does anyone care this show is coming out?
