I'm hesitant because I don't want uppers...I'd rather opt out and take my chances on the open market than have to take whatever seats the have outside of pit & floor...

I've been a bit surprised at ticket prices. I get that many/most artists/bands and crews didn't earn/make any money last year, but that can be said for much of the general population as well. Given that I think this is an odd time to increase prices for anything. Yeah, it's a business and free market and whatnot, but many folks could really use the distraction that concerts and similar events offer. Don't expect any agreement here, just sayin' that bigger artists could start making the shows more accessible for a bit until we're really back on track economically.

they will ship hard tickets, like always.

at some point they are going to have to switch I'd think, but no reason to believe it will be now, when they're shipping hard tickets already this summer.

most events in general are electronic tickets, when sold thru the venue/broker like ticketmaster.

it doesn't actually affect anything going to the show. scanning a barcode is scanning a barcode whether it's on your phone or a piece of paper.

I hate electronic tickets. I love the stack of tickets I have from the concerts I've attended. I'll usually pay the extra fee if they give the option to have printed tickets. While Pearl Jam did use electronic tickets to get into their shows, they also offered fans an option to buy hard copies of their tickets a couple weeks after the show with the seat numbers and everything if they wanted the souvenir. That's fine with me too. Best of both worlds.

The hard tickets that Ticketmaster uses don’t even have barcodes anymore, there’s a tiny chip or something embedded in the ticket.

A couple of things on that.

First - there are plenty of ways for the average person to get out and enjoy live music without having to see a top touring band. There are some great artists out there who put on fantastic shows for very reasonable prices (Ana Popovic Band for one).

Secondly - if the major touring acts lower their prices - all that's going to happen is a majority of those tickets get scopped up by third party resellers who turn around and sell them for a fair amount more than the artists would have sold them for initially. Hell - we see it with Ticketmaster with their verified resale tickets.

hate to break it to ya, but those days are gone.

maybe if bands offer the adder of a souvenir ticket, that'll stick around, but ordinary hard tickets are done.

Even my Cowboys season tickets are electronic this year, first year without hard tickets. SEASON TICKETS.

Went to snag Mayer tickets this morning, saw the prices and nope'd right out. Over a $100 for the nosebleeds in the FAR BACK of the arena? No thanks.

Yes, I know. I have Minnesota Twins season tickets and they stopped hard tickets a couple years ago. I wouldn't say hard tickets are gone though. They are usually still available for an extra fee. It's usually an option during the checkout/shipping stage of buying tickets. It's how tickets at will-call still work. So choosing to pick up tickets at will-call gives hard tickets. Even the Minnesota Twins will offer hard tickets to season ticket holders with like a $50 donation to their community fund (or they did a year or two ago at least). So it's not dead, but it costs more money and isn't always an obvious option.

I just saw this for the Chicago JM show as well. JM has been expensive for a few years now, you can get tickets for him cheap last min. JM is only really worth while to see w/ Dead and co. JM by himself, (or w/ his band) is really just too blah if you ask me. If you really want to see him tear it up, go see him w/ Dead and co.

I got second row Dead and Co tour opener and pit for Atlanta. I'd like to see Mayer's solo stuff live, but I'll wait and see what cheap tickets pop up. It was almost $500 for two tickets. That's just insane.

I'm not sure if you're saying this as Mayer himself solo (which his shows are full band) or if you mean you want to hear him play solos at his full band shows.

If you're looking to see him jam and play solos during his full band shows, save yourself the time and money and just go to a Dead and co show. Otherwise you can expect 85% of the same songs from him each night but a few rarities here and there.

4 years ago my daughter asked me to keep an eye out for John Mayer tickets at Lakewood ATL. Afternoon of the show I start looking, and at about 5pm the 3 best possible tickets popped up on TM..Front Row dead center (no pit for the show)...so I went with them

That's where I'm living right now.

There's no real bad seats @ MSG (barring extreme side of stage or behind the stage), but I'd rather not buy uppers again...

One of my favorite venues, certainly my fave arena, but I'd dig decent seats for a concert one of these days...

Definitely not the case. First row of the 200s is possibly my favorite place to sit and at least the first 5-10 rows are still great. It starts to get iffy a little further back when the 300s overhang starts to interfere. I'm sure others could provide specific details on which rows to avoid.

Behind the stage is great depending on the band's stage setup. Wouldn't want it for DMB, but its awesome for Phish.

Do you have to buy the premium package through the warehouse to get good tickets still? OR is the big price difference just for the other stuff they give you. I have 20+ years of seniority on there if that makes a difference these days. It used to, but hasn’t been super helpful in recent experiences. Thanks all!

Dave's voice is going to be rough. This will be #8 & 9 shows in 13 days but should be a good time.

I'd say it worked out okay in 2010..

Think of it this way, the best non-premium seats will always be worse than premium seats. You can still get very fine non-premium seats from the WH, but just don't expect first 10 rows or something like was the case 15 years ago unless you get premium.
