Towards the end of The Road to Big Whiskey documentary. See about 1:14:00 here: https://youtu.be/0c6H7KOUGAI it's Dave in the studio with Rob Cavallo. Horns, etc. seem to be laid down already, and Dave is recording his guitar over that.

Yes, I've been waiting for it since that documentary.. lol.

I think once again the plans for a 2nd Cavallo album to follow up Big Whiskey got derailed.. I have no idea why they wouldn't continue to make records with him.. I know BW can be hit or miss for some fans, but they band really seemed to enjoy the process, and Dave obviously loves those songs to death..

I don't understand how Sugar Will didn't end up on Come Tomorrow... That could have been the glue for that mix of songs.. Just one long jammy old school DMB song in the middle somewhere of that tracklist.. I assume they have recordings of ROI on it somewhere too.

    Nothing was saving that album.

After hearing those clips we definitely should’ve gotten it on Big Whiskey as a bonus or something. I still wouldn’t mind getting 1-3 songs we know on this album if they do the studio cuts justice.

That’s another part of the weirdness of holding onto the archival/vault stuff...releasing MORE Roi for everyone. I get that it’s still gotta be tough for the guys in the band, but it’s really Dave and Roi that made this band. Sitting on tracks and tracks of unreleased songs and what I’d assume are lots of alternate takes with Roi is a real shame.

I’d gladly take any archival stuff with Roi at any time on any album.

Carter would have something to say about that. He's actually historical class.

I would happily stop banging the Bismarck drum if they just gave us a soundboard release or a live trax. It's been 5 years since the debut and it still isn't on a live trax. Same for Death on the High Seas.

How long did it take for the 04 or 06 songs to make it on a live trax?

    Re: New Album Coming Soon?

I want new music on the new album. My preference for “archive” songs is the remastered album + bonus tracks method like they did with UTTAD and Granny. If they go back to that, they could easily do this:

Crash Remaster - Deed is Done
    BTCS Remaster - “MacHead”
Busted Stuff Remaster - Sweet Up and Down
Stand Up Remaster - Crazy Easy
Big Whiskey Remaster - Sugar Will
Come Tomorrow Remaster - Death on the High Seas

I think Bismarck is a little overrated, but it would work really well with the new songs we’ve heard. If they re-recorded it with this lineup, that would be the one “old” song that would make sense on a new album. It’s really a solid song that deserves to be on a legit album, it could even be a single imo.

I think Bismarck is great. Loved being there for the debut. I don’t understand why so many people like Death on the High Seas. Nothing about it seems interesting to me, but to each their own.

Bismarck is a good song but I agree that it is overrated. I just don't love the chorus. I think I would welcome it on the new album though. I never quite got into Death on the High Seas. Not a bad song, but it just doesn't do alot for me.

I agree the chorus is only okay. The verses are great though.

Yeah, Bismarck is awesome, I just think it’s overrated around here. If you hadn’t heard it and only read ants, you’d think it was the next Dreaming Tree or Stone.

I would be very happy if it made the album.

It’s because Bismarck is a happy feel good song that actually works and isnt you and me or be yourself or can’t stop.

Machead isn't album ready. If anything it could be on an outtakes/b-sides type of album, but as it sits, it's not exactly something a record company would say "hey, that definitely belongs on an album".

I will add one additional thing to your list related to archives...demos. They exist, and they are good. This one in particular is amazing and the band is still in possession of the original tape (well they lost possession of it for a while but it was given back to them):

    https://antsmarching.org/tour/ViewShow.php?ShowID=3789

As Chad mentioned, Machead is really not even closed to finished (disclaimer that I suppose they could have more finished versions in the vault - but as far as we know, it's not even closed to finished). If they ever release it, it will be interesting to see how they do it. Feel like it would probably be a "pre-order and get an exlusive link to download "Machead". As opposed to it actually being on an album.

Is Haunted Hollow strictly a recording studio? If so, is it DMBs personal recording studio or hav e other artists used it?

    I can’t confirm 100% but considering it’s on Dave’s property I’d assume it’s strictly theirs.

His Instagram says “can’t wait for y’all to hear what’s going down” #dmb #staytuned

Plus a bunch of other hashtags and has him playing one note with a mute.

So I’m assuming he’s still recording for DMB.

DMB owns the studio, and as such have priority use for it, but they do book other artists there as well.

Makes sense. Considering how much it gets used by this band someone might as well enjoy it.

Why are a lot of you so angry and negative when it comes to new material/music. If you don’t like it find another band instead of being so negative and ruining other peoples experience! Yes, their sound has changed over the years EVERY band evolves thru the years. They are never going to sound the same after the loss of Roi. Jeff is incredible but since then, with the addition of Buddy Strong and the parting of Boyd the band has a great new sound. Dave is fired up in all the interviews I’ve seen about the new lineup. Personally I love how the band has evolved and stayed relevant over the years unlike other 90’s acts that are done. They have kept the material fresh while adding new flavor and tasty tunes too the mix. I’ve been a fan since 97, do I miss the old shows HELL YES, do I Hate the new ones? Hell NO!! Why? Because I love the band, their music, their attitudes, and I like how they stand up for what they believe in!!

It doesn't seem that many are down on the new music in this thread. Not sure where that rant came from.

Releasing old demos would be amazing. To you and Chads point about MacHead, I’m assuming it’s pretty bare bones, but I think there’s multiple takes in existence. Surely one of them has to be listenable for DMBs social media to acknowledge its existence. Maybe it would be better released with a collection of demos/alternate studio takes.

I would still love to see them go back to remastering the studio albums and including B-sides like Granny. Even if MacHead would be absent from BTCS, I mostly want to hear things like Steve Harris’ recording of Sweet Up and Down and other various outtakes from all the studio album sessions.

I’ve heard about the take of Rapunzel with lyrics about worms, that would also be cool to include with a demos type release down the road.

Album could be done and they’re there rehearsing.
