Does it look half-full, now that capacity has been reduced?? Or are just the corners empty?

The roar of the crowds(full capacity), used to be unparalleled.

It doesn't look all that much different. People tend to spread out more on the lawn. It says still a huge venue.

I'm fine either way but it would be awesome to see The Revivalists open for them.

Basically feels the same as it did in 2010ish.

No where near what it felt like in 2004/5 though.

These draws for DMB were TERRIBLE at Alpine.
Back pre 2012 they were selling out at least one show and damn near close for the second show. Getting pavilion tickets was a huge pain, and high priced if you missed out.

It really is a damn shame. With 40,000 a night rockin that venue it sounds amazing. 20,000 average a night doesnt do it justice.

Pavillion is always full and down in the pavillion you cant REALLY tell the difference visually. Its all auditory. But last row pavillion and front of lawn you can tell the difference. WAY more room between people in the lawn, whole portions of the parking lots closed. No traffic jams on the way out.

One of my favorite bands to this day I discovered opening for DMB in Pittsburgh in 2012. SOJA. I remember the first night looking at my wife like what the fuck is this... then the second night it just clicked and I have loved them and followed them ever since. Miss openers SO BAD especially while you are waiting in the PIT. It's brutal waiting till 8 30 for DMB to take stage

Openers definitely need to come back. If they're good, I'll head in and see them, and if not, more time for tailgating. As soon as the two set format was announced, I realized it was a money grab for both the band and venues. An opening act did not have to be paid, and there was a lot more booze sold by having everyone inside over an hour early, including a half hour of idle time between sets. Overall, the two extra songs throughout the show was not worth it.

    Re: 2018 Tour Rumors

Found out yesterday that my best friend of 20+ years had passed away. He was the one who got me into the band in the late 90's by introducing me to WWYS (because I was a Blues Traveler fan and that song had John Popper in it). Of the 39 shows I've been to, he went to 19 or so of them with me. The last time we talked was Saturday and we were making plans for next summer. He hadn't been to a show since 2014 and was wanting to see some next summer. I plan on going to as many shows as I can next summer now, especially places we had been together (Dallas, Woodlands, STL, Pelham, Southaven, Louisiana, Chicago, etc - any places we went that they return to next summer).

Sorry to hear that Chad. Nothing's better than the rich memories/experiences with friends/family when you have a mutual love for something like DMB/live music. I think 2018 will be a great touring year to tribute to your friend.

I just don't believe they have the draw anymore to go to Alpine. A good percentage of fans are grown now with kids. Going to a show at Wrigley or Northerly Island is a lot easier than trekking up to Alpine for the day. Doing a Chicago show or shows will bring a bigger crowd. Dave and Tim at Northerly Island was packed and secondary market tickets were very expensive. The original Wrigley shows was like a special bonus add on to the summer. The ricketts want more and more concerts at Wrigley to boost revenue for the rehab of the park. I can see them going back if they are welcomed

Numbers from 2015 and 2016 would argue against your point. They're definitely enough of a draw to go there

This. The demise of this band's popularity live is greatly exaggerated on this board.

This couldn't be more accurate. Ants gets a high by saying the band is done and/ or can't draw a crowd anymore

Using a destination venue as the barometer is as silly as using a venue like Arkansas or OKC, which sold horrifically. Neither extreme tells the real story.

Honestly, a venue like star lake or Hartford tell the story. Dropping from two nights to one, but one night still pulls around 15K

I feel in general dmb is going to sell 17k tic venues well
Of course extreme high and lows will occur

I get mixing in some random cities every summer, but places like Little Rock and Southaven (even though I'd go to both) shouldn't be getting shows before a city like Nashville. It's crazy to think the full band hasn't played there since 09. As high of a demand there was for the D&T shows, they could easily sellout a weekend show/shows in Nashville

    Agreed

On a side note, do you know how the sales were in 09?
I'm wondering if demand was higher in part because they have not been in a while or if demand would be there anyway

As I've said before, Little Rock shouldn't get dmb anymore. There's just not enough draw there.

The venue in Rogers however is a completey different story. It will always sell out and is a beautiful venue. That should be the Arkansas stop if there's gonna be one.

If El Dorado ends up getting them, I'm not even sure that would sell out even being an 8k capacity venue.

I'm all for the little venues in the south. Keep the shows at Southaven coming I'll gladly take it. plus I actually really like that venue.

Also sorry for your loss Chad.

Almost 11 months since the full band's last show..... they've never gone that long in their careers. Crazy

Excited for 2018... that first show is going to be so loud. Hopefully MSG

I hate Southaven cause of their bullshit uptight cops. Getting off to catching folks smoking a bowl or getting their dicks hard by ruining someone's night over a little weed
