I agree with you. People look at ‘18 and say no show from that tour could ever have been release worthy. Like ‘18 Hollywood Bowl, that show sounds release worthy to me but it gets the same treatment with others. Nearly everyone else on here.

yep... I don't think many on here give 18/19 the chance it deserves... The Hollywood bowl show is pretty damn good. It's not perfect and has a setlist that isn't super unique, but in 5 years no one will remember what the standard '18 setlist was anyways.. It will stand on it's own as a solid show.. and the mix and sound on it and LT 46 are superb... It makes for excellent listening... That being said so is LT 52... But the show itself is a bit underwhelming as most were in 2014... But the acoustic set is really fucking great... That 1 disc alone is worth it.. Good the OP doesn't have to buy them all at once!

So the 2014 setlists were underwhelming, now 7 years later...but in 5 years no one will think the 2018/19 setlists were underwhelming?

I get what you're saying, yes sonically it is good music (and maybe that's all the matters), the violin is still sorely missing but you can't cry over spilt milk...that being said, these setlists were so, so mundane, probably because of Buddy and just the band trying to play tunes without a certain instrument for the first time in 27 years...but you can't hide the fact those setlists were bad.

They just weren't classics. There was a lot of new material and revisted material like LB... If a listener enjoys those then it's a great setlist... I like the CT songs and think the Hollywood Bowl is a solid B+ official release, I will admit it's partially due to the sound quality of it. It has ups and downs, but think it's a good show. Similar to say LT 28, which was a very standard 2010 show, but the energy and playing on it is incredible and it also sounds very good.

You got me on the 5 years thing.. I should just say a good show sometimes isn't related to the year it was played when it's looked back on... I don't think LT 52 is a good show just because it's been 5 years. Again the acoustic set is amazing, the rest of the show is pretty average... we tend to look at a release in relation to the tour it came from... Where as we should just look at it as an individual show... Lt 53 is a good example of that. I happen to think it's a pretty average release even though it's 98 show.. and not just because of the set in relation to the other sets that tour.. It's short, it doesn't sound great, it's just kind of a weird release, which set it up for "this show is going to be amazing because it's so random", and it really didn't it's in the bottom 1/3 of shows for me and it's a 98 SHOW! WTF?

To each their own. I get why anyone wouldn't like the Hollywood bowl show or Lt 46. I also get why you would. and vice versa for Lt 52. Everyone has good arguments. It's just like food.

I was just busting your chops, any era of the band is acceptable to me. I own Hollywood Bowl on CD and vinyl, but it's certainly not my favorite DMB sound.
