Re: The Decision: Boyd Leaving DMB

I don't know much about violin players but surely Dave knows someone who can fill in.

I bet this means setlists will be more repetitive this year, so the new violin player isn't too overloaded with material, if they go that route and get a new one.

I have this strong feeling that the band will not replace him and will cancel the tour

Boyd healthy enough to play with Bob Weir last weekend. Either he wanted to leave or Dave wanted him to leave

Sucks Boyd was awesome but the band had to have known and guessing they have a guy to replace him? Wonder who it is

Maybe he got an unexpected medical diagnosis. Its horrible, but we have no idea what happened. I am sure Dave will discuss after first song tomorrow night.

Too soon to nominate a replacement?

(I'm so sorry. Just looking for a moment of levity in what is a really depressing, and hopefully temporary, announcement.)

Just purchased a $1550 Oasis tent at the Gorge. I hope Boyd is OK, but really bad timing. Who knows what the band will do....Sad day for DMB.

Wow, I don't know what to say. What does this mean for the future of the band? Like many have said, I can't imagine the band without a violin.

It's interesting that BT himself tweeted it out rather than the DMB page - makes me wonder whether this decision was truly just made?

I would almost prefer that the band doesn't hire another violinist - it wouldn't seem right. Maybe Bela will join the band full-time?

A business platinum ticket machine to roll this out via a Boyd tweet after the public on sale on a Friday government bad news dump style tweet is utter bullshit

Shocked but not surprised if that makes any sense. Seems like years since we've seen the old Boyd. No doubt it leaves a big void in a lot of the material but I actually feel like they will be ok musically. If nothing else it will keep things interestiing. And I actually like what he is doing with crystal garden.

There is no way they will cancel this tour because Boyd is leaving. It's seemed some folks on that stage have wished he'd quit for a long time now.

Hasn’t been in promo photos including the calendar, which was months back. Makes this all the more shady from a timing perspective.
