"Just stay on the resort and you'll be okay. The cartels don't mess with tourists at the resorts."

    Yeah okay. Fuck youuuuuuuuuuu.

    http://www.fox26houston.com/news/272452891-story

I can see the headlines nes now. "38 dead as the Gulf Cartel ambushed a Dave Matthews concert on the beach targeting a rival cartel Captain. While Dave Matthews played his song 'Captain'."

Probably the four seasons in Houston each night, if I had to guess.

Heading down to Mexico Sept 7th-12th for an old friend' destination wedding. We're staying at the Excellence Riviera in Cancun. Anyone happen to have stayed there before? How does it stack up against the Barceló in Riviera Maya? Thanks for your help.

Never been to the Barcelo but was at the Excellence for a week back in April and the resort was great. Only issue we had was massive amounts of seaweed that washed up on shore everyday. They were always out there cleaning it up but they couldn't keep up with it. It was only right at the waters edge and the rest of the beach was super clean. My best suggestion is tip the wait staff early and they will take great care of you all week.

Awesome man. Thanks for the advice. Looking forward to a couple trips down there in the next 5 months!

Getting 2 tickets to a single night is just not possible

They use RFID wristbands for the entire weekend.

State Department issues travel warning for Cancun, Los Cabos over Mexico violence

“While most of these homicides appeared to be targeted criminal organization assassinations, turf battles between criminal groups have resulted in violent crime in areas frequented by U.S. citizens,” the advisor said, referencing the Mexican state that includes Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, Tulum and Riviera Maya.

That's enough for me and the wife to pass. Cost plus this is too much.

From the moment you went through customs and exited the airport, drivers were there with Dave & Tim signs to direct you to your shuttle where cold beers were waiting. You got to ride to the resort with other fans.

Upon arrival they dropped you off at the CID check in area (again, just for DTRM attendees). They greeted you with champagne and passed cocktails and chilled towels. DMB music playing, made the entire check in process hassle free. Fans were all excited to be there, grabbing their tote bags and custom room keys and meeting up with friends. Concierges were onsite to make dinner reservations, they had chair massages, snacks, etc - all just in the mass check in area. It really felt like no detail was overlooked. I've worked in events and experiences (travel and events) for over 10 years and it was all very well done and top notch.

To give you an idea I think CID told me they had over 250 staffers on site just focused on guest experience (not part of the venue crew).

Each building area had a designated CID concierge to assist with anything you needed.

(This was all at the Barcelo, the main host resort, I can't speak for the experience at other resorts). Everything was branded DTRM - custom room keys, signage everywhere. Custom maps and booklets. They had a tequila tasting with little glass branded glasses.

Barcelo staff was walking around handing out cold waters, assisting and interacting with attendees.

Each day by the main pool at Barcelo they had the openers perform during the day.

When you arrived at the shows each night they had a whole decorated village set up, greeted with drinks as soon as you walked in, waiters walked around during the shows brining you drinks. They had a photo op experience on the beach and dressed performers walking around prior to the show. They had a homemade churro stand within the venue, and a whole outdoor dining area with different food stations - tacos, taquitos, nachos, vegetarian options,

If you have ever been fortunate to attend a large corporate sales meeting or destination meeting for work (think Hawaii, Costa Rica, etc) it was on par or on that level of an event.

Post show they handed out pizza as you were leaving and directed you to post show food and entertainment set up each night.

Most of you reading this probably feel like eh, doesn't sound worth it, or big deal, but anyone that attended last year will tell you how pampered you felt and how you didn't feel like you had to worry about a THING.

It was just unlike any other concert experience you could imagine.

Which, is what CID presents does - they are a concert experience company.

This was not FYRE festival lol. This was well organized and executed.
To miwegi, you say "If you have ever been fortunate to attend a large corporate sales meeting or destination meeting for work (think Hawaii, Costa Rica, etc) it was on par or on that level of an event"...
Yes! And wow! Great comparison for description. I had a work trip to Maui, a week Kapalua Bay Resort. Unforgettable, totally incredible package, had to have cost $3k per at least. And no concert. Tons of included excursions though. A memory that will last.

    Hi Everyone,

Just a heads-up, I received a post card from CID today inviting me back to Mexico for D&T 2018. I figured it was just a junk advert and was getting ready to toss it when my wife pointed out that it includes a special alumni code to download 'You & Me' from night 2 of 2017. Don't throw that mailer out before you get your code!

I received the same post card. I'm more interested in the part that says:

"Stay tuned for some exciting additions..."

I assume this means they will announce some special guests, but do you really think that would draw more people? If they're sending post cards promoting this even after how many months being on sale then sales for this have to be underwhelming to put it nicely... Maybe there's a clause in the contract stating if sales don't meet a threshold by a certain date then full band is required to play. I know this is wishful thinking, but what else would be a tipping point to get someone to commit to this event other than full band? Especially for those that went last year.

    Maybe it's the beer talking.

Just spent 5 days at the Excellence Riviera Cancun early this month and it was fantastic. Set the bar high for my all inclusive expectations. With how much fun I had on the last trip I can only imagine how awesome this will be having each night bookended by D&T shows on the beach. Gonna be wild.

I saw them last night in Franklin NC. Got to meet them, they were very nice and down to earth. Got to ask them a couple questions and got an early copy of their new album. I asked Béla if he’d be playing with Dave at all next year and he said they were opening for him and Tim in Mexico. Not sure if they wanted that info out there but I figured some people on here would want to know

Looks like it’s official now, damn y’all are lucky. 2017’s openers were alright but Bela Fleck is on another freakin level. I’m actually looking more closely into getting time off for this, it has the potential to be 10x better than 2017 with a few Bela guest spots mixed in all three nights.

    official email from CID:

"It’s with great excitement that we welcome folk darling Brandi Carlile, the dynamic duo of Béla Fleck & Abigail Washburn, and powerhouse sisters Joseph, to the Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds Riviera Maya 2018 lineup! These artists are perfectly suited to provide the soundtrack for an all-inclusive weekend getaway on the beach in Mexico. Keep an eye out for these performers around the pool by day, before they set the mood for Dave and Tim on the beachfront stage for one night each. Nightly set times will be revealed closer to the event!"

My girlfriend and I stayed at Barcelo Maya last year for a nice winter getaway (not for the D&T shows). We booked it through a travel agent and it was super cheap. What's to stop us from getting into the shows if we book the same 4 nights at Barcelo as the nights of the shows? If the shows are on the beach, you can see and hear everything from just about any point in the resort, right? Do they have it sectioned off or something?
