Frankly, nothing DMB has done has come close to touching the genius of three of those albums. BS may be my favorite album, but even I can't put it up there with Joshua Tree, Achtung, or Fire.

I think that objectively speaking, UTTAD is probably musically and culturally their best album, but even then, it still can't touch that big three, or even War, really.

I'm not just talking musically either (in which case, none of those albums have had close to the effect that the first four did, and Some Devil isn't a DMB album anyways. I'll give you three of those over ATYCLB though.)

Honestly, I listen to War from time to time and I don't really get the big deal.

It should at least stand out as the best production Lillywhite ever did by himself on a non-DMB album.

But as for War itself, it's just so angry, and edgy. The bass work on that album was SOOOO ahead of its time. The punch to songs like Two Hearts Beat as One, and New Years Day are amazing. It took Bono years to be that consistently great both lyrically and vocally great (Joshua Tree) again. (Though, he was consistently shitty on How to Dismantle and Atomic Bomb.) Without War, I don't know how much longer U2 would have lasted. Granted, you could say the same for Unforgettable Fire.

DMB, U2, and w/e AOTY nominees are up. I personally am biased towards DMB b/c they are my god, but do i think they will win? no? should they? yes? but oh well all of us as fans know the real truth.

Since this is more or less DMB's best shot at AOTY, I'm inclined to actually watch tonight's Grammys. It's going to be the first time I've ever done that.
