This thread has been one big 'yo mama' or 'that's what she said' style joke. Fun for a bit, then annoying as all hell until it comes back around again to being fun. It's meandered between the incoherent, insufferable, hilarious, and hopeful - sometimes managing to be all four at once - but it's generally been interesting.

That said... god, I hope we don't have to get through another 500 pages...

Id really think the original TOT lyrics for the chorus flowed better. I hope if they keep the new lyrics he tweaks them for a better flow on the album.

What I find most concerning of all though is this talk of management interference again. Dave straight up said last time he wanted to just trust himself more, and it seems like he's been sucked into the same cycle he's always been since the LWS where he can't trust his own instincts.

Pretty sure a perfectionist doesn't play an incomplete forgettable song in front of thousands of people that paid money to be there.

+1 on the old TOT lyrics too. New ones are clunky as hell.

I think I mentioned back at the start of the tour this year that a combination of the two sets of lyrics could work well.

I do like the changes to TOT but I do think the old chorus was better. I wish he just evolved the chorus throughout the song and used both.

Agree! This is totally how it should be.

Unfortunately it seems (from this limited outside POV) that DMB is letting management call the shots on what ultimately could have been a great album, adjusting it just like they did with the LWS instead of trusting the artistic process. And just like every other time, it seems they've grown discontented with putting it out.

To think I was excited about the prospect of a new album in 2020, and we are in the back half of 2022 with no announcement, is astounding. I could run the studio better than DMB at this point.

Of course this news is supposed to come in what is already probably the longest slog of a month in existence. Desperate for college football and NFL, no DMB tour, hotter than sin, while pining for an email to drop from DMB every day makes for the slowest time movement of my recent adult life.

Their management, like the majority of this country, seem to have no concept of history and learning from it. Get the eff out of their way! You already mucked up their legacy circa 2000, broke Daves brain and just don't seem to have learned anything from that.

I don't anticipate any news until the week of the tour starting back up, or possibly shortly thereafter. No particular knowledge, but that's what seems most likely to me.

I get what you're saying, but I'm cautiously optimistic based on the changes we've heard on the songs from last year to this year.

Why does this have to be binary? There's not one objective definition, it's totally possible that Dave is optimizing for things that you would not and that's his version of perfect. Can't he be a perfectionist while also taking risks? I feel that this tension is what has basically defined his whole career.

I'm not just picking on this comment, but rather on everyone who is on Team Gotcha! who seem set on disproving his (maybe?) self-proclaimed perfectionism for...reasons? What do you gain from exposing Dave as being less than perfect? Homeboy is a consummate professional who is one of longest tenured touring performers out there, and people go to DMB's shows to see them play their stuff while coloring outside the lines. Sorry to rant but c'mon, man.

My thing with TOT lyrics is the first part of the chorus this summer just sounds like too many words crammed into a small space until he gets to the “I just want love” part. Same time, him playing it on the acoustic instead of baritone sounds better.
