That's pretty much what happened to us, except we didn't even try to hire a photographer.
Wife's step-dad has a super nice camera, so he took all the staged, cheesy, posed photos. The "official" ones, if you will.
Everyone there took a ton with their digital cameras, phones and with the disposable ones we put out on the tables, and like I said, those are the only ones we ever look at. I sent the "official" ones to my mom so she had something to frame, but that's the only use we got out of them.
I've yet to regret not hiring a photographer.
I always get a kick when I get the email from friends saying "here's the link to our wedding photos, let us know which one's you want printed up."
Sorry, I have no desire to spend money on pictures from your wedding. I'm fine with the ones on my iPhone.
