Led Zeppelin DMB Covers

LZ is one of my all time favorites and it's always a treat when DMB covers them. With the recent addition of Fool in the Rain, which smokes by the way, thought I would make a running list of Zep songs Dave or the band have covered. AND a wish list of which ones might be a good fit in the future!

Stairway to Heaven
Good Times Bad Times - my favorite cover they've ever done outside watchtower)
Tangerine ( Dave & Tim)
Fool in the Rain
Kashmir

Heartbreaker riff (Tim plays this ATSB, which is also a ZEP reference)

I think the Ocean would be a cool cover.
Dave and Tim could do a great version of Going to California

Really though I think No Quarter would be a killer surprise encore. Haunting, heavy and 70's psych.

i know there arent too many people on these boards who dig both dmb and phish, but even if you are not a huge phish fan, check out them doing no quarter. i would find something more recent ad opposed to older just because, in my opinion, even though im a bigger fan of the older phish songs than the newer, i think their playing right now is alot tighter and powerful. besides, you dont have to like phish to enjoy the beauty of trey shredding no quarter.

Not a huge phish fan but tons or respect for them. I will check this out. Do you have a version off hand you could link here? If not, I'll go find one.

The Zep covers are alright, I just think Dave picks the run-of-the-mill songs and does the exactly the same as the studio. Nothing very exciting. I'd love to see them try something like Trampled Under Foot, Kashmir a la the Plant/Page version on YouTube with the Middle Eastern vibe, etc.

But at the end of the day, whenever Dave thinks about playing a Zep cover, he should just automatically slot in Last Stop or Spoon.

A D&T E1 of Battle of Evermore would be cool. Dave may struggle with those high notes but when has that ever stopped him?

Do you have a link to the version you speak of? Brandi would be awesome with DMB on anything IMO.

Yes! Get a 12 string going. Would be awesome. Ya, he's done tons of covers that are nowhere near his range. It's taken him 14 years to get his voice to where it could hit those Sledgehammer notes lol

Trey has an awesome voice! It took me awhile to get into Phish from DMB but once I listened I got it. What I think about No Quarter is that at the beginning of the song, Page's inflection at the ends of his notes he sings sound a lot like the way Trey finishes his notes. I think it is an unintended tribute from Page to Trey who both rock. Does anyone else feel this way or am I coming out of left field?

Speaking of left field, I am going to listen to Live in Brooklyn. "Performed on June 17, 2004, at the minor league baseball field KeySpan Park in Brooklyn, New York, it was the opening night of what was then intended as the band's final tour."

I'm speaking of the No Quarter from 12-29-18 - MSG

In Live in Brooklyn, the way Page and Trey move together for Dinner and a Movie is unparalleled in any band I have ever heard. In Free, Fishman always comes in at exactly the right time with Gordon on the bass. Fishman and Gordon also move as one part in this song. Fishman's style is so effortless and smooth in Free. The synth effects on bass, I'm sorry, whatever you call them, are sweet. What do you call them? I'm interested in what the bass effects are called. Free is definitely one of the highlights of this show for me

I know, I'm up late and no one is around on these boards. But in Phrankenstein, Jon plays the drum solo from Edgar Winter Group perfectly and Page adds his synth effects. Listen, if you have not heard Phish live, you should try them. I can almost promise you will not be disappointed. But hey, it's not like they are hurting for phans

It is one of the most beautiful melodies I have ever heard in my life. Trey's melody on The Divided Sky is breathtaking. I play it on the piano, but there is no match for Trey's guitar. It was the final song played at Live in Brooklyn and is my favorite Phish melody of all time. It compares to my favorite melody from the Dave Matthews Band: Lie In Our Graves, which is just as breathtaking. Trey performed in a guest appearance on 8.14.07 during LIOG. Whatever you do, watch it. Dave and Trey are into it. You can feel it

During Moma Dance, the change in keys is so cool. And so funky with Mike. Do they do this in Story of the Ghost? I don't think so . . . hey I can do this on piano because I at least have relative pitch. When there are a bunch of sharps or flats I get a little confused at first but I at least have relative pitch like I said. I can go months without touching the keys and play the notes I hear perfectly without a thought. So how do I know if I have relative pitch or perfect pitch? My childhood piano teacher said I have perfect pitch but I don't know if I believe her. I think I may have relative pitch. I am not bragging with my ability, I just want to know the truth. How do I figure this out?

When the Levee Breaks is my favorite Led Zeppelin song and DMB could hit it out of the park. The intro is classic and Buddy could do some sound effects on this one
