When - if ever - do you "sign off" from a text message conversation?

SSIA basically.

Do you do the wrap-it-up? "Well Im headed to bed", "I'll let you go" etc for text convos? Or do you just end it at a natural (natural for texts, anyway) stopping point and pick back up later?

Does it depend on the person and how well you know them? How close you are? How much time has passed since the last convo?

What about greetings?

AFAF...

I don’t use a formal goodbye or hello

Just start talking or stop naturally

Yeah, it’s just an ever evolving conversation with most of my messages. No ending.

Don't think I sign off on conversations with anyone, friends, wife, parents. Maybe when we were dating and texting a ton you'd have to end a convo for the night.

93% of my texts are asking what do you want for dinner

With a few people who are close to me, but otherwise no, not really

Like Scrock said, it's an ongoing discussion

Re: When - if ever - do you "sign off" from a text message conversation?

Not really. Some customers I will end with a typical "thanks I'll keep you posted" to create a defined end to the probably already brief exchange.

But other than that, it's just an ongoing random conversation that may pick up the next day as if it were 10 mins later. As long as everyone agrees this is the way, then we can live in a society.

It's the people that flaunt these norms just like they did 15 years ago with phone conversations that never end, that are a problem.

Hone that little voice in your head that says "OK, that was a short response, time for me to leave this be and do something else".

    99% of the time i don’t

the 1% is if having an extended conversation, as in back and forth texting for hours, and i have to cut it short unexpectedly

Re: When - if ever - do you "sign off" from a text message conversation?

When I don't feel like talking anymore, I'll just stop answering, regardless of the person. But I don't just abruptly end a conversation by not answering a question. Once the purpose of the conversation is achieved, I (or whoever I'm texting with) generally just stops texting.

I have some group chats that really never end. Just pauses, sometimes a day or two long, between messages.

Not the point of the thread, but I have a cousin who will pick right back up on a text conversation 3 days later as if I had just texted her 5 minutes ago. Beyond frustrating.

I go to bed at 10 every night, you need something from me after 10 you’re not getting a reply until the next morning

Literally every group text on my phone. And my manager/supervisor also love to start new group texts all the time. Before I even read the first message, I hide the alerts.

I hate texting with such a passion, I'm usually eager to put a stop to it, even temporarily, so I usually do put a temporary wrap to it.

When I'm dating someone, our conversations usually end with a "I'm going to bed, have a goodnight *emoji*" but otherwise yeah it's an ongoing conversation

Neither unless it's someone I don't know (like my cleaning lady) - regular text messages I treat like a neverending coversation that takes a break when I go to sleep and picks up again in the morning

I almost always use a greeting and some sort of phrase that indicates goodbye/thanks/peace/conversation over.

    Hi, I hope you’re well.
    Good morning
    Yo brother

The only text I've ever done to wrap up a conversation and more than likely a relationship or business agreement is always something along the lines of nothing good followed by do not contact me again. That is about the only time I ever close out a text message. Then again I usually just hang up on people on the phoneonce one party has gotten whatever it wanted to get. It's a weird thing that coworkers have had to get used to. I'm a huge fan of cutting through all the b*******
