Positive update- the near-surface smoke density product by the national weather surface says pollutants will be at around 10 µg/m3 at showtime. You don’t have to know what that means, but to put it in context it’s at around 250 µg/m3 now.

Good Morning. We are staying at the Pod 51 at 230 E 51st in Manhattan. Can any local experts advise of the best way to get from LGA, and also JFK, to that location? Doesn't have to be the cheapest, but what is the easiest and quickest? Thanks!

LGA is cab. LGA not great for public transportation. JFK is the Airtrain to Jamaica and then jump on the E to 53rd/Lex, which is right around the corner from Pod 51. To get to the show, just hop on the E/M to Jamaica and take to Forest Hills and the venue is right there.

Easiest: Uber/Lyft from either airport to wherever you are going. But you will almost certainly hit traffic. It's a much quicker uber from LGA to NYC than JFK to NYC.

Efficient (and also easy, but not as easy as a straight uber/lyfr):

JFK - Take the airtrain from JFK (stops at all terminals) to Jamaica (this is a direct train, no transfers needs). Get off at Jamaica and take either (i) E Train, as noted above; or (ii) the Long Island Railroad from Jamaica direct into Grand Central Station (the air train and the Long Island Railroad and the E Train all stop at Jamaica so the connection, whether you go E train or LIRR, is in the same station). Both of these methods will almost certainly be cheaper than an uber/lyft as well.

LGA - Take an uber/lyft to Woodside Long Island Railroad station. Get on a Long Island Railroad train going directly into Grand Central. In almost all cases, unless there is really serious traffic, taking an uber/lyft straight to the city from LGA is probably most effective and convenient though.

FYI - Once in the city, I know that the LIRR runs both out of Grand Central and Penn directly into Forest Hills. I believe there is a subway line that also stops by Forest Hills but not sure which one or where it connects in NYC.

Is there only one stop in Forest Hills on the E/M... I'll also be braving the subway system on my own (getting on at Penn Station).

    Thanks!

I think it's the E, which I can pick up at 53rd and Lex, right near the Pod 51. I think getting to Forest Hills is the easiest part.

Ngl I'm still a little worried about the show going off without a hitch. I'd imagine no words today would be a good sign but seeing the Giants cancel their practice for tomorrow because of air quality and listening to officials has me feeling a little ehhh. The Romeo Santos concert for tomorrow at Citi Field still seems to be a go so that's encouraging at least.

Yes. Can take the E from Penn Station to Jamaica or F/M from Herald Square to Queens and all three stop at Forest Hills. If going from Penn Station, could take the LIRR Babylon line to Forest Hills (far and away the fastest way, only 15 mins or so)

I read that, they cancelled it because of the air quality inside their indoor facility. The smoke outside will be almost completely gone tomorrow afternoon, but I imagine a large indoor building needs some more time to air out.

Def hoping that's the main reason. Plus rain is looking less threatening or tomorrow so 🤞 we're in good shape for tomorrow.

Yeah, any possible cancellation is most likely going to be no earlier than tomorrow.

What makes this all so tricky is difficult/unreliable forecasting along with cancelling a gig being an absolute last resort for touring productions and venues.

The real question is less about us and our health and more about the band's health (like Dave's voice, Rashawn & Jeff's ability to blow, any health conditions other members might have...etc.).

There's no reliable crystal ball here, but I'm sure conversations and contingencies are being discussed because that's what tour staff do on the daily.

One of the biggest questions before management is, if the air continues to be as bad as it is, do you "rob Peter to pay Paul." That is to say, do you push ahead and do the gig only for the band to have respiratory irritation in the days following.

All-in-all, they'll probably proceed as planned because dolla dolla bills, y'all.

I know Chris Stapleton canceled his show for tonight in Syracuse, but hopefully by tomorrow the air quality will be much better.

I was at Irving Plaza and the inside was fine but the outside was rough. The Yankees have a doubleheader tonight after canceling on the 7th but that may be up on the air. The Nationals canceled their 1pm game outside as well. Total crapshoot at this point but for those who live in NYC know who bad it was the last 2 days, so fingers crossed for some wind shift.

Yup starting to see some blue sky trying to poke through here in Queens. Feeling more optimistic about things for tomorrow night. Feel like if the Yankees games go off today without a hitch, we should be in the clear for tomorrow 🤞

The air quality is a lot worse in Washington now. The air quality in NYC is better than yesterday and improving.

It's an off-season practice to boot. There's no reason for them not to be extra cautious.
