FLAC. I got a portable device designed for 24/96 FLAC files with the headphones to go with it. You could always degrade down to 320 kbps MP3s.

Frankly speaking, I don't like FLAC, I prefer simple mp3 files, they go on all the carriers of the new and old sample without problems. Honestly, I don't know if it will be useful for you, but there are some special mp3 convert programs that help you help to convert music very easily. You can even convert video to mp3 and download it from Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Reddit, YouTube in some simple steps without any effort. So even if your choice is FLAC I'm sure that there exist services and apps that convert music/videos on it the same like those for mp3.

I download the FLAC, transcode to AAC, and stash away the FLAC in an archive in case I ever want a higher sample rate or new codec. I almost never actually listen to anything in FLAC format directly.

If I'm at home, I'm typically listening to vinyl anyways. Car and exercise I listen to digital.

I am not a musician, but I agree, I a live recording it is quite hard to tell the difference between 320 kbps and CD quality. Even connecting a DAC. Even with high end headphones.

Consider also that 50% of live trax don’t even have a great audio quality, so in this case it just doesn’t make any sense.
