Your opinion about 2009 DMB Tour

I am reading different things about 2009 DMB Tour, post Big Whiskey & the GrooGrux King. Some people and some band members think it was good and energetic, some others say that the band should have taken a break for that year.

I would like to hear the opinion of the Ants that went to see those shows, not only in terms “good or bad”, but why: what was special of those dates and what you didn’t like.

If you can, please give me details of particular shows that you find somehow relevant (positive or negative).

I loved the Darien and Virginia Beach shows that year. Bristow was fun too. Hershey setlist was “meh” (as well as the sound, but it is a stadium, after all).

I think that tour gets a lot of criticism for being so BW heavy, but to this day, the SPAC 2009 shows are a couple of my favorites that I've attended — and I really like the LT 35 Burgettstown show, too.

I just looked back at the show reviews that 20 year old me wrote that weekend. A little embarrassing but nevertheless a fun look back haha.

The N2 encore bookended by #40 and Halloween is an all-timer for me.

2009 was the only time I did multiple DMB shows in a year. I went to Vegas N1, KC, and Tulsa. The KC show, 9/30/09, was surprisingly great. The shows leading up to it were mediocre at best, setlist wise they had gone full coasting mode since the tour was dying down, so it was a nice to get a little treat like that. The Tulsa show two days saw the band return to DGAF status to finish the tour.

I love the enthusiasm on N2: “oh wow”.
Makes me remember those shows where I was jumping from beginning to the end.

How did we not meet at Tulsa?

Re: Your opinion about 2009 DMB Tour

2009 was DMBs last push at being somewhat relevant. BW was heavily promoted. They had that tv special on fuse with that BW documentary leading up to a show that was broadcast on live tv. That was huge. They were on good morning America, etc.

The actual tour itself is meh. I think most people enjoyed BW at time, because it was clearly better than stand up. People were very high on the album. The songs got beat into the ground on the road though. The tour just doesn’t age well overall as far as setlist go. I will say the sound of the band was really good and high energy. Live trax 35 is a hell of a show, that’s about how all shows that tour should have been setlist wise.

I don't think we really started chatting on here until I was in FL, honestly. That was also kind of a weird night for us, wife was worried about some results from the doctor that turned out to be nothing. We hit up Coney Islander, went to the show and then bounced to my brother's house right afterwards. I didn't meet up with any friends that I knew were going and only saw some friends from the Chili's days because they had seats two rows in front of us.

Tulsa is still the worst show I ever saw.

Re: Your opinion about 2009 DMB Tour

Love how they sounded in 09, setlists certainly don't hold up. Spring 2009 is a fun little tour though. And the first half of the summer in the US ending with Burgettstown have some fun shows. They hit a wall after coming back from Europe it seemed. That N1 Alpine show is a rough one and it seemed to continue to go down hill / get stale from there.

'08 - '10 had some really good opening acts, too. Avett Brothers, ZBB, Gary Clark Jr, Alejandro Escovedo.... probably forgetting a bunch.

I was at The Woodlands show on 5/1/09 & thought it was fantastic. One of my favorite shows that I’ve been to.
